Careful to overrate....very weak conference (look at his opponents outside of conf.)...school is academically outstanding and sells itself...downtown SA, sells itself as do the top notch facilities...couldn't ever win the big game! UTSA was open twice during his tenure at TU, so why now make the jump to D1 and as a second assistant (not certain)...Kristine Lilly, who is the volunteer assistant, will have more say than him. TU will draw 1000 apps, good luck to that search committee..lol....last 2 coaches that cover over 18 years (Greg Ashton and Lance) were both internal hires....expect the same.

Good grief! Your critique is that his team did not win a DIII national championship game. They did everything but that.

Kristine would be the most powerful volunteer assistant since Anson Dorrance on the UNC Men's team.

    Good luck to her.

Thanks for making my point even clearer...at Trinity its ok, and tolerable to be 25-1, 23-2, 20-5, whatever...but at Texas.....ask Mack Brown or Rick Barnes.

If Petrocelli was 25-1 he'd still be at Texas.

Well, if you're saying the Longhorns have the same expectations of their women's soccer program that they have for their football (Brown) and men's basketball (Barnes) programs, you can say whatever you want, but it doesn't make it true. The evidence says that whatever expectations they have for other sports, their expectations for women's soccer aren't as high as you suggest:

    1994 9 7 2 .556
    1995 7 14 0 .333
    1996 8 10 2 .450
    1997 10 10 0 .500
    1998 6 9 3 .417
    1999 8 9 2 .474
    2000 12 7 0 .632
    2001 14 6 0 .700
    2002 15 5 1 .738
    2003 12 9 0 .571
    2004 15 7 2 .667
    2005 11 9 1 .548
    2006 18 4 3 .780
    2007 16 4 5 .740
    2008 13 4 4 .714
    2009 9 9 3 .500
    2010 11 6 4 .619
    2011 11 9 1 .548
    2012 8 10 2 .450
    2013 12 6 2 .650
    2014 11 8 4 .565
    2015 8 6 4 .556

cpthomas...thanks for setting me straight....Trinity cares about soccer, and Texas doesn't....so why the move!!

For the same reason Petrucelli made the move from ND to Texas.

how come you are so bent out of shape on this? you know, we are talking about an assistant coach position for soccer.
The administration doesn't care who the assistant coach is.
the players won't care, the fans won't care, so why do you care?

Maybe for a new challenge. The challenge of helping an underachieving program compete at a higher level may be a reason? I would be concerned about job security with the move; if Texas ever care about soccer the staff may not be there long so could be a gamble but based on recent years probably not.

I frequently wonder this....there is an 'ECNL Debate' thread with a couple hundred replies. We're talking about kids' soccer here. Now fair enough, if you're a soccer parent, this can be relevant, but to everyone else...who cares?

Or aspirations to be a HC at the DI level. Regardless of success at the DIII level it would be difficult to break in as a HC at the DI level unless one is willing to start at/near the bottom. Even highly successful DII HCs find it a challenge to overcome the DI experience bias of many administrators. Bottom line, it doesn't need make sense to you whatsoever; the only person who really matters in this is Lance.

    Totally agree.

Anybody have insight into who may be a front runner for Western Michigan? Big shoes to fill but seems a great job for whoever gets it.

Maybe if a head coach takes the Western Michigan job something could open. Otherwise we are onto 2016 postseason where the front runners are most likely Miami and Syracuse amongst the ACC. Maybe Iowa State and Texasamong other top conferences, although who knows about the latter pair. Oregon must surely be feeling the heat too.

Any word on Delaware State? Perhaps they are having a tough time with bringing in a quality hire? If someone leaves there for Pacific perhaps there are issues beneath the surface?

If somebody leaves for Pacific it could be for a lifestyle change.

She was applying elsewhere after season so was definitely looking to get out before being pushed out. Losing to a poorly coached Stetson team probably didn't help her cause.

    Poorly coached Stetson?

    2011: 4-10-2
    2012: 2-13-1
    2013: 6-10-2
    2014: 5-12-1
    2015: 10-8-1

I don't know anything about how he coaches, but the 2015 record is pretty good given where he started out when he arrived in April 2013.

Saw them once in 14 and once in 15 they are poorly coached. Coaches from his former conference will tell you the same thing.

Could be, as I said, I wouldn't know -- but he still apparently was an upgrade. Perhaps says something about Stetson athletics.
