El Salvador and Guatemala both won 2-0 tonight, so both will be going to the Gold Cup (the first time Guatemala will have qualified without going through the back door since 2007). Honduras will face off against Nicaragua in the fifth-place match.
Rankings after Round 3 of Copa Centroamericana. Huge jump for Guatemala heading into the championship round. Costa Rica 1003 Mexico 963 USA 937 Guatemala 619 Honduras 526 Panama 507 El Salvador 476 Antigua and Barbuda 420 T & T 374 Jamaica 321 St Vincent & the Gren 305 Dominican Republic 298 St Kitts and Nevs 281 Canada 267 Haiti 266 St Lucia 259 Cuba 257 Aruba 233 Grenada 209 Suriname 176 Curacao 167 Guyana 149 Puerto Rico 127 Barbados 113 Belize 103 Dominica 89 Montserratt 86 Bermuda 83 Nicaragua 83 Turks and Caicos Islands 66 US Virgin Islands 28 Bahamas 26 Cayman Islands 21 British Virgin Islands 13 Anguilla 1
So that 3rd-place match actually does matter, then. IIRC, those are overseas terrorities, not overseas departments like Martinique, Guadeloupe and French Guiana. As best I understand it, the comparison goes: Overseas department : Overseas territory :: Hawaii : Puerto Rico
Yeah you're right there. However Saint Martin and Saint Barthelemy are Overseas Collectives, the same status as Tahiti.
Final Rankings Heading into October. NOTE: The FIFA website uses .88 as the multiplier so these numbers will likely be off on Thursday when the official numbers come out. Costa Rica 990 Mexico 963 USA 937 Guatemala 546 Panama 546 Honduras 536 El Salvador 439 Antigua and Barbuda 420 T & T 374 Jamaica 321 St Vincent & the Gren 305 Dominican Republic 298 St Kitts and Nevs 281 Canada 267 Haiti 266 St Lucia 259 Cuba 257 Aruba 233 Grenada 209 Suriname 176 Curacao 167 Guyana 149 Puerto Rico 127 Barbados 113 Belize 103 Dominica 89 Montserratt 86 Bermuda 83 Nicaragua 83 Turks and Caicos Islands 66 US Virgin Islands 28 Bahamas 26 Cayman Islands 21 British Virgin Islands 13 Anguilla 1 T & T and A & B have a big match next month where the winner will likely crack the top 6. Im surprised Canada does not have any October Friendly matches scheduled to try and help boost their rankings. Then again Jamaica provided them a great boost that could be tough to match. Any loss would certainly not help so not playing might be a safer choice. Guatemala is clearly the biggest winner this month jumping into a solid Top 6 position El Salvador is likely the unlucky Top 5 UNCAF team that will have to play in the early group stage of WCQ. Look for big jump for Haiti next month as they get going hosting their Round 3 group of the CCQ. Big possibility against St. Kitts and Nevs. Group 7 hosted by T &T will also be a very interesting group to watch. The winner of that group should be fighting for the 6th Bye since they have most of the top points earners in this group, A&B, T&T, DR, and St Lucia. Curacao - St Vincent and the Grenadines winner could pull an Aruba points wise and win by losing as the other two opponents in that group are non FIFA (Guadeloupe and Martinique) Fun month!
According to Salvador Nasrallah (sports commentator and former presidential candidate), the UNCAF/CFU playoffs will take place on March 23 and 31, during the FIFA window.
I don't know whether to give the CFU a thumbs-up for its realistic scheduling vis-à-vis the FIFA window or pan it for copying UNCAF's idea. But the Caribbean Cup finals will also skip the semifinal round. Btw, I don't see any fifth-place game. The only precedent we have is the 2008 Caribbean Cup: after Cuba withdrew from the Gold Cup, the CFU conducted a coin-flip between group stage third-place finishers Haiti and Trinidad and Tobago, since they both got 4 points with 4 goals for and 4 against. My guess is that fifth place would similarly go to the third-place team from the group stage in Jamaica with the better record, or a coin-flip in case of identical records.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2014_Caribbean_Cup#Ranking_of_third_place_teams says there will not be a Fifth Place Game.
And the article linked is no longer on their web site: http://www.cfufootball.org/index.php/caribbean-cup/9522-men-s-caribbean-cup-fixtures-updated
I expected Jamaica to play on days 1, 3, 5 (instead 2, 4, 6) - give them (hosts) extra rest-day between group stage and final.

Few players can say the scored on debut for their national team, fewer can say it twice...Faubert has now done it for France and Martinique— Caribbean Football (@caribbeanfooty) October 8, 2014
Wait... Julien Faubert is actually playing for Martinique?? Woah. How long before Malouda sports that French Guiana jersey and Henry that Gwada jersey.

Both of them retired from the France NT after the 2010 World Cup, right? Then they'd both be eligible to play with French Guiana and Guadeloupe (respectively; Henry's also eligible for Martinique) in the 2015 Gold Cup. And why not, the 2016 Copa América...
