While LAG are acquiring such "no-name" players as Nigel de Jong, Ashley Cole, Mike Magee, Jeff Larentowicz, Belgian International Jelle van Damme, etc., to go with Keane, Gerrard, dos Santos, Zardes, et al.,

The Chicago Fire have been busy, as well.

Chicago Fire GM Nelson Rodriguez and Chicago Fire Head Coach Veljko Paunović have been busy, scouring the world for talent (well, warm bodies with pulses), to make up the Chicago Fire roster.

The Fire have signed not one, but two Colorado cast-offs: Michael Harrington and Nick LaBrocca (yes, THE Nick LaBrocca).
Nothing says "ambition" like taking Colorado cast offs (well, that depends on one's definition of "ambition," but anyway).

The Fire have also signed two lower league goalkeepers: Patrick McLain and Matt Lampson, who will be (not at all) ready to take over when the Fire decide to cash out on their last remaining asset, Sean Johnson.

And, just today, the Chicago Fire managed a major coup (by beating absolutely no other team) to the signature of former San Jose-Dallas-San Jose-RSL winger, Arturo Alvarez, last seen (well, no one actually saw him, but it is listed on Wikipedia) plying his trade for Videoton in the Hungarian First Division (NOT the second division, but the mighty Hungarian FIRST division), located in the lovely city of Székesfehérvár, a city with more accents than famous sites.

The Fire have demonstrated their recent motto of being "Globally Curious" by signing players from:
Brazil-Rodrigo Ramos (who has 9 whole professional games under his belt, and 40 minutes over 2 games in the U-20 World Cup, where he "impressed" Fire head coach Paunović.)
Portugal- João Diogo Serpa Meira (who has played for teams than he has names, mostly in the Portuguese second division)
Holland- The Fire "passed" on Nigel de Jong (by being not all in the running), to sign Johan Kappelhof (no, not Oswald Cobblepot, that's the Penguin from Batman, try to keep up).

"We can now say that the Fire have completed all 6 points on Firing Up a New Pro Soccer Experience," said Fire GM Nelson Rodriguez, almost managing to keep a straight face during the entire description.

"Human: Well, duh, all of our new players are, technically, human.
Gritty: Our fans (all 10 that are left) have the grit to sit through this season.
Globally Curious: See above, stupid.
Indie: Well, that is not even a word, so we don't have to worry about that one.
Irreverent: Come on, folks, have you seen what I have to done to, err with, this team? I have fired then entire front office staff (including the last people here since the beginning), dumped every player (except Johnson and our DPs, who no one wanted) making over $100,000 and replaced them with scrubs, college-kids, and our "globally curious". If that does not smack of irreverence, I don't know what does.
Chicago Pride: Well, Mr. Andrew Hauptman is not from Chicago and the Fire do not actually play in Chicago and we dumped our two best "Chicagoland" players (Shipp and Magee), so, in the immortal words of Sarah Palin, we'll get back to ya' on that one."

The Fire are now up to 22 actual players on the roster.
The Fire can almost play a full scrimmage (if one of the three goalkeepers plays as a field player).

Or, in the actual words of Fire General Manager Nelson Rodriguez, "The bottom line is we're in compliance with league rules."*

Yes, that is the current ambition of the Chicago Fire, to be in "compliance" and, thus, not be sanctioned for being out of compliance.
