There's no doubt we're a more talented team and we're definitely improving. The real question is are we improving at a better rate than other MLS teams? I think in terms of talent acquisition, we are. But it falls on Curtin to put it together and implement a system.
So there's an idea. If Curtin were to leave tomorrow, where do you likely see him ending up? Maybe that's a better gauge of his abilities as coach. Would any other MLS team take him as their head coach? I don't think anyone does, personally.
Rumor that Roman Zozulya is in talks with an MLS side. Think we have money leftover? Could be some more players leaving Dnipro as it sounds like they're in financial trouble.
There probably is money. Alberg and Bedoya were both TAM, so the subtraction of Wenger, Maidana, and Embolism covered their costs. And I guess there was about a million earmarked for Bedoya. Are Edu and Barnetta the only DPs now?
You threw me off there, since we did get Alberg, I thought you meant we also got Bedoya. I was going to say, I try to stay up on these kinda things how the hell did I miss that lol
Overall TAM activity: Used in acquisition/signing: Barnetta, Ilsinho, and Alberg Traded out: Pontius deal Traded in: Maidana/Wenger deal Have to wonder how much is left. Once it's depleted, we'll be down to that supposed/mythical $1M+ "warchest" of cash we were going to use on Bedoya. (Which I personally don't believe ever existed.)
Here is my estimated TAM $ balance (same info is in the original post of the roster thread): Targeted Allocation Money (used to players making more than DP charge. 5 Year limit) * Sources: 2015: $500K (MLS Funding) 2016: $800K (MLS Funding) 2016: $100K? (Houston: Maidana & Wenger trade) Total: $1.400?M * Uses 2015: $200K? (Barnetta 2015 salary buydown) 2016: $175K? (Barnetta 2016 salary buydown) 2016: $50K? (DC United: Pontius trade) 2016: $250K? (Alberg transfer fee) 2016: $150K? (Ilsinho 2016 salary buydown) Total: $825K? * Net Balance: $575K? * In 2017, another $800K of TAM $ will be funded by MLS. http://forums.bigsoccer.com/threads/philadelphia-union-2016-roster.2027257/
Union could also sign a Youth DP that would have a Salary Budget hit of either $150K or $125K (or is it $175K and $150K?)depending on the age.
