FIFA has released the kickoff times for the 2014 World Cup. You can find more information at http://www.fifa.com/worldcup/matches/matchschedule.html. I noticed that the finals will not be held in Brazil's prime time. Kickoff in Rio de Janeiro will be at 4 p.m. local time, which is 3 p.m. Eastern (United States) Daylight Time.
FIFA World Cup tickets on sale in 2013 (FIFA.com) Thursday 20 October 2011 http://www.fifa.com/worldcup/news/newsid=1530027/index.html even mutant female clowns from Espana can buy tickets (...female, right?)
Meligeni: Brazil 2014 will be brilliant When they talk about Fernando Meligeni, many people say the former tennis player is more Brazilian than most. And that is because the 41-year-old is not only Brazilian, he is Brazilian by choice. Born in Buenos Aires, Fininho moved to Brazil with his parents when he was still a child and, though he returned to Argentina to complete his development in youth tennis, he always made it abundantly clear just how Brazilian he feels. This level of patriotism shone through in his 29 Davis Cup matches for the country and when draping himself in the green-and-yellow flag, tears streaming down his face, after winning a gold medal at the 2003 Pan American Games. Looks like the Western Hemisphere gets screwed again - even when they are hosting! All knockout stage games get played during prime-time... in Europe! Only one kick-off past 7:00pm out of the entire 63 match tournament. One night game all tournament long!
Yes, we in the Americas get screwed once again. However, there shall be many evening games since the tournament is being held during winter. 19.00 kickoffs even in Fortaleza, the furthest venue in the north, will be under a dark sky.
And 4 pm (the time for most games) is noon for us on the Left Coast! It means I'll be able to watch first halves while eating lunch. And hope no one blabs about the result.
When you have to DVR games, living in the U.S. can be a good thing. I live in Florida, and as long as I don't go online, I don't find out the results. Most people here don't care/don't know about football.
correct... most of the venues are close to the equator, so any play after 17.00 will involve darkening skies and have floodlights on. A 16.00 game in Porto Alegre, farthest venue South, will be dark at the start of the first half.
I guess you can argue that 17:00 is a night game, but what I was getting at is that people in the Western hemisphere will still be stuck in their office for the most part. So it really isn't any better than having the world cup in Europe or even Asia as it turns out. I was hoping it would be giving the mere 1 hour time difference between Rio and where I live, but I guess that was foolish of me. Also don't like how they are playing most games during the hottest time of the day in cities near the equator. I've never been to the Northeastern part of Brazil but I see that some places like Natal receive an incredible amount of rain in June-July. I assume as a result of thunderstorms, which tend to develop in late afternoon/early evening. Lovely conditions to play football in.
