I remember when this deal was first made and everyone was saying how terrible it was for Breakers and that was even before we knew they were going to be contenders for Morgan Brian. SBFC on the other hand should learn from their mistakes this season and actually be proactive in the off season and they could see their fortunes turning
Wow...awful news. That means they traded Brian and Leroux to get Mewis, Sierra, Seattle #1,Portland #2 & Washington #s 3&4
Chantel Jones will play for Canberra in the offseason: http://thewomensgame.com/2014/07/canberra-united-sign-chantel-jones-goalkeepers-on-the-move/
The Breakers just waived defender Jazmyne Avant. I assume they are about to sign someone as they did when they waived Grove.
Really, what's the point of signing someone now? What is left to savage? Or are they trying to ruin SBFC hopes of getting Brian
No clue except maybe they want to bring another player up from the reserves to show it is an actual reserve team?
The other possibility is Avant wants to play and isnt and she asked to be cut to see if she catches on with another team.
You really believe that??? Like which team is going to sign a defender from the worst defense in the league.
I didnt say I believed someone would sign her I just indicated that maybe Avant thought someone might.
Well if Boston ends up trading someone to get Avant back it will be the perfect cherry on top of a brilliant season by the front office.
In other news, Portland have added forward Hanna Terry for the remainder of the season to help bolster their clearly deficient forward ranks.
Reading the Thorns' release, my interpretation is that they've signed her for long term purposes. They must be impressed with her and want to keep her here for next year. In the past, I remember reading MRAD12 posts about there being many players who are top players but for whatever reason don't get recognized. Being from Northeastern, maybe she's one of them.
But the timing is weird, won't you say? Given the limited availability of roster spots, why sign a forward NOW if the intention is to have her for next year. First, no offense to miss Terry but I doubt teams are clamoring on her door wanting to sign her from under the Thorns nose. And even if that was the case, she could say no as she's a free agent. So why the rush to sign her now when you have the league co-leading scorer coming of the bench? Second, why burn a roster spot on a forward when most would agree they need help in the back. What if something happens to a defender heading into the playoff and you have no spots available. For example, this may have been just because they were on the road but in the match against the Spirit, they only had 3 non GK subs (McDonald, Kerr, Shim), none of them are defenders. Are like most people have admire Riley coming into this season but some of his moves are just head scratchers. This 180 degree turn into focussing so much on offense have left me confuse especially coming from the guy that unleashed upon the WPS people like Magnusdottir
Jamie Goldberg @Jamiebgoldberg 5h Riley said Thorns don't need to make any more roster cuts because Courtney Niemiec & Kat Tarr are out for the season with injuries #BAONPDX This ruined my pending theory that Riley has finally decided that the perfect roster for soccer is two GKs and 17 forwards and Vero.
That is true but my point is why a forward? They just lost two defenders (Tarr and Neimiec) to season ending injury and then he goes out a get a forward?
He's short at CB as he starts all three so that might have been more prudent. Maybe it's because Vero misses Sweden.
