PErhaps hat knock will be the hit that finally gets Ike out of his slump and hitting like he can. Encouraging signs from Marcum--12Ks, 7i.p. Gotta get the staff to quit giving up te gopher balls though. Tejeda needs to try to drag a few bunts and take more BP. He's like Willie Mays Hays at the moment and hitting everything in the air. Slap that shit Ruben.
Nice to get the Subway Sweep. Perhaps that will catapult them to mediocrity--which is far better than they have been.
Swing and a miss! Weiner beats on Mets during pitch for soccer in Queens By LIA EUSTACHEWICH Last Updated: 12:40 PM, June 7, 2013 Posted: 12:34 PM, June 7, 2013 The Mets’ opponents aren’t the ones beating up on the lackluster team. Morose Mets’ fan Anthony Weiner threw a bean ball at the Amazins’ during a Queens mayoral forum this morning. “I’m a pro-development Democrat. I think we should build and grow the city as we go and I want to do it smartly,” the ex-Queens congressman said when the topic of sports came up at the Terrace on the Park event. “I would love to have major league soccer here in Queens. Heck, I’d love to have major league baseball here in Queens first..." Weiner said to guffaws. Ouch. He added with a chuckle, “I’m a Mets fan. I can say it.”
Damn...Davis, Baxter, and Carson to Vegas. Ankiel didn't last long either. Does that mean Legares more in CF? I guess Justin Turner is the new first basemen then. At least Wheeler is getting called up soon, so we can get excited about that.
Valdespin will be at 2nd...but Sandy Alderson said yesterday that he's on a short leash with a plane waiting to take him to Vegas on idle...
have always liked Wally Backman... http://www.nydailynews.com/blogs/ba...as-what-is-he-working-on-and-what-is-his-mood
Harvey and Wheeler today. At least we have Harv to keep us interested. Hopefully Wheeler lives up to his prospect status. Duda moves to first at least for now. Hmmm.
he could still be, he reminds of Chris Davis, he had some success when he was brought in and then when they figured him out he struggled (Ks and low batting average) now he is doing better
NOTES: The Mets activated RHP Scott Atchison off the disabled list following the game and sent utility player Jordany Valdespin to Triple-A Las Vegas ... Atchison is 0-0 with a 4.50 ERA in 19 appearances with New York this season ... The series concludes Sunday when Pittsburgh's Gerrit Cole (4-2, 3.68 ERA) faces New York's Dillon Gee (6-7, 4.60). Cole is starting in place of Jeff Locke, who is dealing with back stiffness that will force him to sit out next Tuesday's All-Star game ... New York reliever LaTroy Hawkins was held out again due to soreness in his right triceps. Collins says the decision on whether to put Hawkins on the disabled list won't be made until after the All-Star break.
doubt it, but I actually do remember Dwight Gooden pitching for Tidewater in Louisville in the 1983 AAA world series. He was "lights out"... The three league champions in 1983 were the Tidewater Tides of the International League, the Denver Bears of the American Association, and the Portland Beavers of the Pacific Coast League. Tidewater had defeated the Richmond Braves3 games to 1 to win their league's championship, the Governors' Cup. Denver defeated the Louisville Redbirds 4 games to 0 to win their league title, and Portland swept the Albuquerque Dukes in 3 games to take the PCL crown. Held in Louisville, Kentucky, Tidewater ended up winning the tournament and the World Series, with a 3-1 round robin record. With a 2-2 record, Portland finished second, and Denver finished at 1-3 in third place. This format for a post-season champsionship was not repeated, and this was the last time all three leagues faced each other in the same season.
I just went looking for Gooden's 1983 post-season stats, but I've been unsuccessful. As for Denver and the Dukes...no way.. http://ultimatemets.com/affiliates.php
