3,806 in NY 3,896 in Tampa 3,080 in Carolina 3,092 in Ft. Lauderdale Not a great start to the fall half. Lets hope the numbers pick up as the half progresses.
Wouldn't expect FC Edmonton to post a big number tomorrow either, they weren't able to secure the right to play the World Cup Final on the new Jumbotron at the Commie Bowl so the timing of their game should make for a low turnout. The Split season break is to blame partly, you get momentum going and then start over after the team being out of the news for weeks, happened with FCE last year. Carolina had 2 games in 4 nights also but Ft Lauderdale was business as usual with their 3K+.
There was really bad weather in the Tampa area, and there was a Rays game at the same time for the Rowdies game. They even had an official "tailgate" before the game with free food, shirts, and music, but that did not help us get over 4K. Hopefully with better weather and some more momentum after our win, we can get back to our Spring Season figures.
Don't worry, when they get their new stadium they'll be packing 25k regularly. *chokes to death on own sarcasm*
For what it's worth .... NYC are being outdrawn by the Long Island Ducks independent minor league baseball who so far are averaging 4974 fans a game ..
Have to admit that Cosmos attendance is disappointing, seems more posters on twitter and message boards than go to the games?
I was on board with the idea of the NY Cosmos in MLS and playing in a stadium in NYC. A minor league team playing on Long Island under the Cosmos name does nothing for me.
Good first step. You acknowledge their intelligence compared to your limited capabilities. That's the only way you can learn and move forward. Good for you.
I think that is an exaggeration, but just by a little. Kind of reminds me of the early MLS jokes about the hecklers being afraid because they were out numbered by the players on the field. On a side not, I wonder why it is ok to attack the Cosmos incessantly but not ok to defend your team? Also, it is ok to defend every team except the Cosmos? If you defend the Cosmos you are some kind of whack job but if you attack the Cosmos you get repped. Sounds strange doesn't it. Also - happy for the Ducks and their success, they are awesome and an asset to Suffolk County, NY. But, as for the Cosmos and Ducks comparision - Suffolk has a population of about 1.5 millions and no other sports teams or big college sports programs and it is like 50 miles from NYC. So, nothing like the Cosmos - on a related note, breaking news, the Cubs are out drawing the Chicago Fire this year - but its close (sike - its not close at all)
No, @Sam U El is just fine ... as are a few others. You, and those "attacked", have something in common.
I am not meaning to attack the Cosmos, just the attendance issue to me is a big concern. Coming off a championship, and still not drawing fans. What happens when the team struggles? I personally love the passion of the Cosmos fans, and don't considered them whack jabs. Since most take it pretty well when they lose.
Ticket sales and team performance are not as inextricably linked as you - and others - seem to think. No matter how many examples you show people of teams that win but can't draw or that draw despite not winning, instead of re-thinking the 1970s-era beliefs that winning is the number one determiner of attendance, they scratch their heads and say, "Hmmmmm. Don't understand what's wrong with those fans." It's nowhere near all of them. Just the ones with internet access.
Appreciate it, not talking about you. The rest of the post stands though. Last game killed me though, I don't live in NYC anymore, but happened to be in town for a wedding. Killing me, I was in the Bronx for a wedding but couldn't go to the game. (score didn't help, killed me too)
http://www.nasl.com/article/uuid/17...aim-to-open-td-place-with-a-bang#.U8bbSvl_vfI The NASL's single-game attendance record, in the modern era, currently sits at 13,151 and belongs to the San Antonio Scorpions, who set it during their 2012 home opener against the Puerto Rico Islanders. If you ask anyone involved with Ottawa Fury FC, however, they'll tell you that the Scorpions' league record won't stand past this Sunday, when Ottawa will christen their beautiful new home, TD Place, against the visiting New York Cosmos.
For Ottawa it is not just a game or a regular opening of a new stadium it is one of the most anticipated events in Ottawa. The OSEG group added Fury owner to that group specifically for its soccer presence. The Fury are not a pop up expansion team but an already orginazation with full mens and Womans academies and is making the upgrade for PDL to NASL. The group also includes a football specific owner and land development owners. The main owner has been in the sports business with Junior hockey which has an already in place top marketing department. A 3 team model of CFL, NASL, and OHL with a reno's stadium and arena connected as well as already started cross promotion.

Very interested to see what happens in Ottawa. Before that bit of information above, I was going to say that it seems unlikely that the solid 2nd place in 10K+ was going to stand. But, depending on what happens in Ottawa, this year could manage to hold that slot or even take 1st. So, despite concerning attendance in NY (which, while poor this week, was still not as poor as a couple previous weeks) and other weak showings, overall the league still looks much better than pretty much ever. There's still a good chance that this season will end #1 in all categories. I have a question about the bad weather in Tampa. It's summer. Isn't rain very common?
