This thread is for the draft that happens today. Hope we pick up some things that we need like a tall, fast, hold up play forward that can score in the air.
Maybe a mod can change the title to the current year. If we hadn't gotten players like Cameron, or Sarkodie through the draft, I'd be really meh about it. The draft highlights the major problem facing the American college player. Lack of quality minutes compared to their foreign peers.
So, should the Dynamo draft flip-throw in expert Michael Harris? ( promo wisely emphasizes other skills first, flip throws start at about 2:20 ) Waibel sang praises of his overall skills, which is most important. Unless the rules change, like it or not, the long throw is an asset.
My prediction is the Dynamo will take VOO-chick VOY-check with their first round pick. However, if he's no longer on the board they will take ANY Generation Adidas player left regardless of position. If there are no GA players left I can see them trading the pick for a current low cost MLS player and some allocation dollars.
AJ Cochran Center back. University of Wisconsin. Hometown: St. Louis, MO Birthdate: 2/9/1993 6'3", 195 lbs Big Ten defensive player of the year. Also scored 3 goals last year. He had the winning goal when Wisconsin beat stinking IU, 4-3, last fall. Good enough for me.
Guy is a very solid 1v1 defender and has decent quickness for a big man. Also good in the air as expected..this is a solid pick especially being a GA.
Great for GA, sounds like a young Boswell. Maybe better athletically, but word is this guy isnt exactly fast.
He's being compared to Eddie Robinson, great in the air, adds some defensive depth, and he's GA. This is as good as it gets.
Ok I have to step in and say something: speed isn't everything. This ain't FIFA 13 where speed is the be-all end-all and can win games by itself. I'll take a slow defender who knows how to read a play and intercept a play than the reverse. The old adage of "you can't teach speed" is true but we shouldn't let it be some cure for our defensive woes.
In soccer, you can't teach speed but you can sure as hell be knowledgeable enough to hide it pretty damn well.
Schillo Tshuma was also a GA that was available. Speedy forward. I seen the need though for a CB with Ibe-whateverhis name is not signing.
I won't pretend that I know anything about this guy, but a GA player at a position of need works for me.
