Sunderland has two games the final week, at Arsenal on Wednesday and at Chelsea on Sunday. The game against Arsenal was postponed due to Arsenal being in the FA Cup Semifinals. Meanwhile, the rest of the Premier League's bottom five play each other on the last matchday with Aston Villa hosting Burnley and Leicester City hosting Queens Park Rangers.
The good news for the bottom three (Burnley, Queens Park Rangers, and Leicester City) is that they have easier remaining schedules than the three clubs above them (Sunderland, Hull City, and Aston Villa). Tomorrow at 2:45 P.M. (7:45 P.M. local), Aston Villa hosts Queens Park Rangers. Aston Villa will be in the relegation zone if they lose, and they would have one more game played than the other clubs who could get relegated.
Burnley beat Hull City, but because of wins by Sunderland, Aston Villa, and Leicester City and a draw by Newcastle United, Burnley is the first club to clinch relegation. Queens Park Rangers has the fewest points, but has one fewer game played than Burnley. Queens Park Rangers must win their last three games, including at Manchester City tomorrow, to have a chance at surviving.
Leicester City and Aston Villa are safe. Hull City lost at Tottenham and must beat Manchester United to have a chance to survive. Hull City, Sunderland, or Newcastle United will get relegated. If Sunderland gets at least 1 point at Arsenal on Wednesday, Sunderland will be safe before their last game.
Arsenal 1:1 Sunderland Sunderland is safe. Hull City will be relegated with a loss or draw or if they and Newcastle United win. Newcastle United will be relegated with a draw or loss and a Hull City win.
As a Newcastle fan, nothing would make me smile more than Newcastle going down and that fat bastard losing lots of money!
Newcastle to Hull: "The Lord told me he could get me out of this mess. But he's pretty sure you're f***ed."
