http://www.thedrugisfootball.com/2012/08/mls-kraft-planning-to-sellrelocate.html?spref=tw&m=1 I Hope This Happens, and Hopefully to Chivas USA too! But the Revs are a Waste of an MLS team! Very poor Attendence and No Championships!
What? Someone needs to let USSF know that winning a US Open Cup doesn't count as a championship. And the Revolution were one of the better attended teams at the start. Relocation isn't technically required as much as getting a competent FO in place...
I see Evan Whitney's name at the bottom of the article. I don't know what his connections to the team are these days, but he's been a reputable poster on BigSoccer for longer than I've been a member and he always seems to be in the know when it comes to the Revs - I remember the old Revs fanzine Pictures of Chairman Mao back when there was literally nothing to hot stove about. Which means there might be some credibility to this and it's not some practical joke or "bartender story".
Foxboro Stadium. If Foxboro Stadium and Gillette Stadium are located right next to each other, then I don't see how the location is a problem given the attendance success NER had in the early days.
That's a better scenario than the one we currently live in. Kraft is killing the sport in New England. They are an embarrassment.
And if one does come back, it will be owned by Kraft... The only way NE fans come out a winner on this is if someone buys the Revolution and keeps them in NE. If they are relocated to Baltimore, Boston drops down to the bottom of the pile with Tampa and Miami. It's a shame too considering the history of supporting soccer they have in that area.
Losing the Revolution isn't going to help that.. According to the article, Kraft is going to have a 10-year window to bring a team back before MLS will even consider another owner. Once the Revolution are gone, all there will be is a friendly or two in Fenway and maybe an off year Gold Cup game in Gillette. That isn't going to repair the soccer community any..
But it won't continue to damage it the way Kraft does every single year. The sport around here would easily be better off without the Revs. It's pretty evident if you lived here.
A key distinction should be made here, the sport in the NE area would be better without Kraft. I'm not sure the same thing can be said of the sport in the NE area without the Revolution. Losing the Revolution, while leaving Kraft a 10-year exclusivity deal, seems like the worst case scenario because Kraft will still be involved in the NE soccer community and you won't be having professional soccer on a weekly basis in the area.
How will Kraft be involved with the soccer community in New England....if he doesn't have a team? Also, the notion that not having professional soccer in the area meaning anything is off base. No one cares about this team around here anyways. The only relationship they have to Boston/New England is one that is negative. The association between the Revs and the sport is a hinderance to soccer around here. They are a complete and utter joke, and make it easy for detractors to point to.
10-year exclusivity deal, still involved in SUM, still owns Gillette. Any Gold Cup games you're going to get are going to be at Gillette and any international friendlies at Fenway are going to be sent done through SUM. The big one is the 10-year deal, Kraft's going to have a vested interest to continue to be involved because of that.
Actually, SUM hasn't been involved in any of the friendlies at Fenway. FSG has brought them in on their own. They haven't had any meaningful National team games in years anyways, so that doesn't even matter. This 10 year "deal" you keep mentioning involves pretty much nothing. So he controls the 1 National team game that they will get every other year? haha big deal. Those things wouldn't change with or without the Revs. Hell they wouldn't change without that 10 year "deal". There is no other place to play the games than in the middle of nowhere Massachusetts, catering to every 10 year old girl in the region who will grow up not caring about the sport anyways.
