Wow, Stephens was talked about with such promise just season before last. I would expect that someone takes a flyer on him pretty quickly.

 

Yeah, didn't see that coming. American player who played a lot of games for them all over the midfield, but hasn't really stepped up his game. Still, if he were on $50K instead of $106K in guaranteed compensation, then I think they probably keep him. I'm sure he'll land somewhere in MLS.

 

I'd be very happy to see him land in New York.

So did a new update. I was divided on how to handle the superdraft. At first I was going to just include the Generation Adidas guys, because they're the ones we know have signed contracts. But it occurs to me that a few of the seniors signed with the league too, and I don't really know which ones did. So I decided to include all the first rounders. Some might get cut, but if they do I figure we'll know. For the rest, we'll just fill them in if we hear that they are signed.

As pointed out in another thread, the transactions page on MLSsoccer.com lists only GA players and seniors signed already on it. van de Casteele is listed along with the other already signed players (Birnbaum, Mullins, and Neumann).

Sorry to gunk up the Scorecard thread instead of the Conversation thread, but it should be noted that he wasn't waived. He simply was out of contract. Judging by the fact that he wasn't re-entry draft eligible (the Galaxy must have offered him a contract equal to or better than his current deal), his rights will remain with the Galaxy. Any MLS team that wants him will have to trade for him.
