Gearing up for the season and here are the pre-season plans. With Twellman's retirement in November, the team can no longer be seen as waiting to get its star striker back, and must instead focus on finding a productive goalscorer and a creative midfielder to supply him. Shalrie Joseph has the skill to fill either of these roles capably, but his best position is as a holding midfielder. While Serbian imports Marko Perovic and Ilija Stolica showed flashes last season, it remains to be seen whether their production over the course of a full season will be enough to get the Revs back to the playoff promised land. I'd be surprised to see Diego Fagundez take the field this season in an official MLS match. But, hope he makes the roster for an open cup match.

Dear Mr. Holliday, If Coach Nicol's only option to resolve our now three year 'troubles' finding the back of the net is to drag out a 15 year old and hope for the best ... then all is officially lost.
I hope to see great things out of Fagundez... but not now... in like 3-5 years. I don't want to have to see him, however if they sub him in a few games and puts it in the back of the net I won't complain, but I don't think he is that much of a wonderkid.
Well said. I like Fagundez but let's not rely too much on the kid. He needs time. Hopefully there are some drivers-age (maybe even drinking age but hopefully not retirement age!) forwards on their way to help out the Revs. Preferably, before the season starts.
Yeah, let's keep in mind that Fagundez has only been playing with the U-16s. He scored a ton of goals last year and has already racked up a bunch in the few games the Revs U-16s have played this year. He's probably ready to split time between the U-18 team and the reserve team. If he does well there...we'll cross that bridge when we come to it.
I remember watching Michael Owens goal for England in the World Cup when he was 16. An amazing run from almost midfield through a packed defense. Maybe the best WC goal I ever saw. When it comes to Forwards I'm not especially concerned about age. No I don't have any real expectation the this kid will be another young Michael Owen.
Michael Owen didn't make his debut for England until he was 18 years old. The goal you are referring to was in the 98 World Cup against Argentina in that same year and again at 18 years old. Diego Fagundez, at only 15 years of age, is no where close to contributing to the Revs or any other professional squad. And age certainly does matter at striker and any other position. Fagundez isn't Pele, he needs to treated with kid gloves and brought along at a slow pace. I think Ian Holloway was only really using the internet as his tool to research this article and with the team clearly very far from being close to being completing the roster he had to write something. His knowledge of Fagundez was probably limited and that is why he alluded to him possibly making a difference.
I stand corrected. My memory said he 16 but then at my age remembering facts is a bit problematic Seriously
Yea, yea, camp starts today All our guys are out to play To kick the ball and jump and fall To ready themselves to be Champs this Fall
It's a bit off topic, but I wanted to share it with the people who care. I made a video tribute for Steve Ralston (I was very annoyed the Revolution failed to make one) because he was that great of a player and individual. [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rEez0I4kifI"]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rEez0I4kifI[/ame] I had limited resources when it came to gathering video clips, I did the best I could
My kool aid cup just sprung a leak. One thing not to be there the first day, another thing for the coach to say he doesn't know where SJ is. JC
And we are off to a fine start...Shalrie is MIA and no "pair of international signings".....good grief!
Thank you for putting this together. Steve Ralston is one of my favorite all time players. I loved everything about his game. I was so bummed when he got to the MNT and got hurt. And then, like you, I was miffed the Revs did so little to recognize his contributions when he finally retired. I went to that game, and all they did was have the announcer say it was his last game and that was it. He waved and was gone. No words, recognition, appreciation, thanks or anything?
