No point creating a seperate thread every week. Just keep it in one thread. This week (week 3) @Carolina:1,181 @Atlanta: 3,227 @Montreal: ?
Indeed. http://a3.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hpho...42175691_142163815834854_426029_2346178_n.jpg Frome their facebook.
according to the their website 12,060 tickets were sold for this game, though because of the cold weather only 7 K showed up
Someone remind them that we are counting tickets scanned (or torn). Nice to see Montreal playing along and not doing their own thing...wait.
I was very impressed with the facility and atmosphere in Atlanta. Crowd was pretty into it and the stadium is great for D2. Can't wait to go back in 2012!
Playing for the first time in 2 years probably has something to do with it. Although losing all 3 of their first home games, late in the matches, can't help in keeping those numbers up. I hope they get some wins to keep the crowds coming back(so long as the Strikers aren't there )

Guess being without pro soccer for a couple years has created a little hunger. Maybe Carolina needs to go dark for a couple years. Because that's the lowest attendance they've ever had. In fact, that's two games in a row that they've set historic team lows. And, it's always nice when Montreal's numbers kick in. Five games this week, including home openers for the remaining teams that haven't yet.
Islanders attendance was 2,682; actually higher than last year's 2,248 for the home opener. Which was also against Minnesota and which we also won 3-1. Overall a average home opener for PR attendance wise. I'm expecting a larger crowd for the Friday game, maybe around 3.5k. Over this season I hope the new GM can put some marketing measures in place that will help to raise attendance average back into the 3k range and beyond. It's to late for this two games already since he just started working yesterday, it's the first time we have a real GM and his background doing marketing for MLS teams should help.
I'm sure at least one of them was. However, I have a hard time believing that, in the five (?) previous years, they haven't had a single game without severe weather. In other words, it's still meaningful that they set two franchise lows.
I saw both of them and the PR game if played down in PR with that kind of weather wouldn't of drawn near 1k. The other game had a actual tornado going through the city SERIOUSLY!
Unless it was a CCL game vs Santos. I remember watching that game, it was like watching water polo . But the PR people showed up and were dancing the whole game, I am sure PRI wining helped a bit.
As someone who lives here and has attended well into the 100s of soccer events at WakeMed (nee SAS) Soccer Park since the main stadium opened in 2002... The second game was a game day unlike any other I ever remember here. A deadly tornado basically cut a swath from south to east of the stadium from 3:30 to 4:30pm. Between the emergency situations in the area and bad weather, it's really hard to compare that to any other game day weather I can recall. As to the opener, well yeah, there have been other severe days, and they've generally had in-stadium attendance as bad. While the lighting storm didn't hit until the 10th minute of the game, anyone that knows North Carolina weather knew what was coming. It was just a matter of how bad and how long. The delay was somewhere around 1:50-2:00 hours. The difference between these announced crowds and other "severe weather" games in the past is the fact that this isn't the same organization that ran the team for the first four years. The front office is basically and expansion team that had about two months (from sanctioning and the resolution of the windup of the previous team's operations) to start from scratch. The "in stadium" crowd for the first game wasn't too unlike that of bad weather games I've seen in the past. The real difference was in the "announced" attendance. There just aren't as many pre-sold tickets, yet. The new organization is still coming up to speed - something I suspect is happening at many teams around the league. It'll be interesting to see if the "announced" attendances grow as the season progresses and the new management has time to get group deals done, sell season tickets, and start advertising.
Ouch for an opening game. There was a big marketing blitz and they gave away a lot of tickets. One can only imagine what the paid crowd was. It's going to be hard to attract an owner with that attendance.
I was wondering how many of the free tickets were even redeemed. It doesn't sound like too many if attendance was really 1,400. I watched the game live and I assume the camera was showing the supporters group only and that the rest of the fans were on the camera side. The attendance did not look good on the live feed. I hope it improves with the summer.
FC Edmonton reports 2,651 fans in attendance at their home opener against Montreal. They did not put on a very good show for their fans and were soundly beaten 5-0. http://nasl.com/index.php?id=3&newsid=404
