Re: Gameday March 19, 2011: Whitecaps vs. Toronto FC [R] I can barely believe the time has come, but here is our first MLS gameday thread. Though living in Kamloops, I am lucky enough to be able to attend the match. Please post anything directly related to gameday, and feel free to discuss the match as it happens live. I'll go out on a limb and call the game a 2-0 win for Vancouver.
Re: Gameday March 19, 2011: Whitecaps vs. Toronto FC [R] im like stupid excited for this game to get going allready, is anyone else like teaming as well ?
Re: Gameday March 19, 2011: Whitecaps vs. Toronto FC [R] Few games will match the anticipation and excitement of your Inaugural MLS game, so enjoy the hell out of it. We're driving up from Seattle and couldn't be more pumped for you (and for us). Kick some ass!
Re: Gameday March 19, 2011: Whitecaps vs. Toronto FC [R] I can't believe the first gameday match thread is finally here! Unfortunately I can't go to the match on Sat...totally gutted.
Re: Gameday March 19, 2011: Whitecaps vs. Toronto FC [R] I'm so pumped, I needed a few beers while playing FIFA last night to fall asleep with the fitba dominating my head space. it will be a very difficult task at work today to make it through the day focussed on work matters.
Re: Gameday March 19, 2011: Whitecaps vs. Toronto FC [R] Out of curiosity, how many season tickets was the Whitecaps organization able to sell for this season? Last time I heard it was around 15,000. Is it any higher now?
Re: Gameday March 19, 2011: Whitecaps vs. Toronto FC [R] Yesterday they announced that they have sold their goal of 16,500 season tickets. Empire Field and BC Place capacity is capped at 21,500. Also yesterday, the Whitecaps did free up 1500 more tickets for the home opener.
Re: Gameday March 19, 2011: Whitecaps vs. Toronto FC [R] That's a good number. Empire Stadium should be sold out for most of the season, if not all of it. I wonder how Montreal will do next year. Excluding Seattle, Canada may end up having the best markets in terms of attendance.
Re: Gameday March 19, 2011: Whitecaps vs. Toronto FC [R] Soccer has taken on somewhat more popularity in Canada than the US for certain, despite the fact that the US has a successful national side and ours continues to struggle. Of course, Canadian teams only have one or two other professional sports teams in their cities to compete with, whereas most US cities have quite a few. Most Canadian cities have only a hockey team and CFL team to compete with, whereas in the US most cities have more than that.
Re: Gameday March 19, 2011: Whitecaps vs. Toronto FC [R] I'm coming over with a crew from Victoria to check out the game. We are stoked and looking forward to this. First time posting in here actually. I'm a regular on the United board being from that area originally, but I just never thought to come check out the White Caps board... Hoping DeMerit has a solid campaign. Twas an excellent pickup for them...
Re: Gameday March 19, 2011: Whitecaps vs. Toronto FC [R] Welcome to the league. I'm looking forward to seeing how the Whitecaps will fair and also to the renewal of the Cascadia Cup. Good luck getting to sleep tonight!
Re: Gameday March 19, 2011: Whitecaps vs. Toronto FC [R] Best wishes! I dearly love your city and I will be pulling for the Caps to live up to the greatness of the name.
Re: Gameday March 19, 2011: Whitecaps vs. Toronto FC [R] Thanks for the well-wishes all. (And welcome to those of you who are new.)
Re: Gameday March 19, 2011: Whitecaps vs. Toronto FC [R] I've been hearing rumours that tickets aren't selling so well, because Empire is hard to get to and low on parking. Do you guys know how ticket sales are looking for this game/the season in general? Also, is the stuff about Empire true, and if so, should things improve once BC Place is reopened?
Re: Gameday March 19, 2011: Whitecaps vs. Toronto FC [R] Rather silly rumours. The Whitecaps have sold 16,500 season tickets. The home opener only had single tlckets left on Wednesday. On Thursday the Whitecaps released 1500 more tickets. The capacity at Empire for soccer is 21,500 but for this game only it will be 23,000. That being said, getting to Empire is a bit of a pain because we've been spoiled about getting to BC Place because it is so easy to get there because of the Skytrain.
Re: Gameday March 19, 2011: Whitecaps vs. Toronto FC [R] Where on earth did you hear that?? There has been nothing but positive reports about the season ticket sales (they've been at 15,000+ ST for months now), and continuous reports of more tickets being released to the public on two occasions. I haven't heard one whit of info saying anything but success for this game and the season in general. ???
Re: Gameday March 19, 2011: Whitecaps vs. Toronto FC [R] I saw it on the Voyageur's board like a weeks ago. I read the thing about the drums for 5,000 fans a minute ago...that's awesome. So, good luck today, nice chatting with you, as of 6:00PM EDT/3:00 PDT, you are the enemy.
