Re: 2011 Gold Cup I did do a search on that and I went to the wikipedia page and it had nothing on it. But thanks smart guy.
Re: 2011 Gold Cup I do not think that Jack even know where he wants to play the gold cup, I hear Canada may be interested, then again it may just be BS.
Re: 2011 Gold Cup you would think they would have a host and a general idea of what the set-up will look like. The fact that a host country hasn't been chosen means it will likely be the USA again since no infrastructure refurbishing is needed. And we have a ton of venues.
Re: 2011 Gold Cup Jack did run for some type of office in T&T this summer, maybe he promised that he would hold the gold cup in Trinidad.
Re: 2011 Gold Cup It'll be the same as 2007 & 2009 - U.S. hosts, three 4-team groups, Mexico will play in Houston, Chicago and LA, the U.S. in NY, Philly, maybe Seattle, Caribbean teams will play in Miami/Tampa, etc. . Pretty predictable stuff.
Re: 2011 Gold Cup I think it would be good for us to face a Gold Cup hosted in Mexico. Make the adversity faced closer to what we have to prepare for in WC qualifying.
Re: 2011 Gold Cup It would be nice to beat Mexico in Mexico, but we've won the last two Hexagonals without doing that. We got 7 points in our 5 Hexagonal away games in qualifying for World Cup 2010 (losses at Mexico and Costa Rica, draw at El Salvador, and wins at Honduras and Trinidad and Tobago). We had the same record of 2 wins, 1 draw, and 2 losses in our Hexagonal away games in qualifying for World Cup 2006.
Re: 2011 Gold Cup I would be okay with Mexico hosting the 2013 Gold Cup... hopefully 2011 will be here, and I think it will be after seeing the interest this WC has brought. I'm sure USSF has extra incentive to wanna get some meaningful games out across the U.S. for new fans to experience.
Re: 2011 Gold Cup Assuming the format from '07 & '09 remains, the field will be as follows: USA, Mexico, Canada all qualify automatically 5 Central American teams: the top 5 finishers in the 2011 (January, I believe) UNCAF Nations Cup to be held in Panama. 4 Caribbean teams: The top four finishers from the 2010 Caribbean Cup (finals held in Martinique in November I expect that the tournament would be held in the US again, that's where the $$$ is at, but Canada or Mexico have the facilities needed to host.
Re: 2011 Gold Cup With the support that Canadians are giving MLS squads, plus the ease at which TV can broadcast from there (see no language barrier), it would not shock me to see them host one of the next two.
Re: 2011 Gold Cup I would rather have the MNT take part in Copa America next year. Ceteris paribus, we should be asking for a quasi-permanent slot in that competition. To face high-quality squads on the pitch regularly is the key to playing better over the long haul. Both Brazil and Argentina are as good as they come.
Re: 2011 Gold Cup Not this shit again? The USMNT has to take part in the 2011 CONCACAF Gold Cup, the winner gets into the 2013 FIFA Confederations Cup. The Gold Cup to skip would be the 2013 Gold Cup. I agree with you, the Copa America is a better tournament to play in, with a First choice team. However, as we have to play in the Gold Cup as it is the regional championships of the region we are members of. Further more, as the uSSF is not a member of CONMEBOL, we need to be invited to any Copa America tournament we desire to play in. After we sent a C squad down to the 2007 tournament, CONMEBOL doesn't seem too interested in having us come back down again. On top of that, the USSF cannot get European clubs to release the players that would make up the A Squad, as FIFA only mandates that clubs release players for their federations regional tournament, which the Copa America is not, thus the USSF won't even approach the clubs for their release. I wish we would play in every Copa America, but until it is moved or the Gold Cup that gets us access to the Confederations Cup is moved to seperate years, then we will be stuck playing in the Gold Cup only. As we most likely will not be playing in teh Copa America any time soon. it is that much more important that we win teh Gold Cup that gets us the Confederations Cup berth, thus giving us another tournament that has quality opponents.
Re: 2011 Gold Cup ive been making this argument since 2007. USSF hands are tied when it comes to picking the roster for Copa. As you've put it, since we are guests, Clubs are not required to release their players. While we certainly could ask, most clubs where our players play will not release them if they are vital to the team. Howard, Dempsey and Bradley (just to name a few) will not be released. We could field a team of euros' but they most likely wont be our starters... its a losing battle trying to explain this. If you happen to make someone understand, there are a million others who dont get it
Re: 2011 Gold Cup I don't think Canada would get the whole Gold Cup but I won't be surprised if there's at least some group games played there. The Gold Cup is a SUM property and SUM has just opened a Canadian office. Plus, Jamaica and Trinidad are big draws in Toronto with Haiti being a big draw in Montreal. Maybe a group with those 3 teams plus Canada playing games in Toronto, Montreal, and Miami. One thing's for sure, the core of the tournament will stay in the US. The sponsors are all american companies who are only shelling out big money to get to hispanics in the US. The sponsors would bail if the tourney left the states.
Re: 2011 Gold Cup i want it to be in the US again. but i know that any games in houston will involve mexico and not the US. boo.
Re: 2011 Gold Cup Canada could host, depending on how many venues you want and the size. Vancouver, Edmonton, Toronto, and Montreal could all be host cities, with 3 of them having smaller venues for group games? VAN- BC Place (59 000), Swanguard Stadium (10 000 but expandable) Edmonton- Commonwealth Stadium (60 000) Toronto- Rogers Centre (53 000), BMO Field (21 000) Montreal- Olympic Stadium (65 000), Stade Saputo (12 500) Have the three groups rotate in venues QF- VAN and TOR SF- EDM Final- Montreal
Re: 2011 Gold Cup I doubt they would bail. All they care about is TV advertising dollars - In stadium revenue is peanuts compared to that. They just need prime TV coverage to be happy.
Re: 2011 Gold Cup Vancouver will also have that temp stadium that's being built while BC Place is upgraded. ~27,500 seats if IIRC. Though who knows if that'd still be around in 2013
