I disagree! If Andy somehow signed Solo....wow! I cannot describe the level of funny that would be... I would immediately form the Hope Solo fan club...It would be great!
It won't happen.... The advantage of having Naeher is that she won't be missing time for national team duty. Also, Dicicco's focus on goalkeeper development might not fit well with an already established and often self centered keeper like Solo.
With Loyden breaking her hand, Hope on a comeback, Naeher is one step closer to being invited to the big show. Lets see, we have Barnie, Harris, and Naeher healthy now. Sounds like Pia and Paul need to invite another GK into camp. Ideas?
I think it'd be a perfect opportunity to get Bianca Henninger integrated into the full National Team setup.
UPDATE: BreakersGM Andy Crossley Ahead of the #wps draft, the Breakers have agreed to terms with ex-Chicago Red Stars, US U-23 and Univ. of Portland goalkeeper Kelsey Davis Got to imagine Phillips drops off...Hard to call her a developmental keeper though... 17 players (pos as listed) under contract in Boston Alyssa Naeher GK Ashley Phillips GK Kelsey Davis GK Stephanie Cox D Rachel Buehler D Amy LePeilbet D Alex Scott D Ifeoma Dieke D Jordan Angeli D Kasey Moore D Leslie Osborne M Liz Bogus M Kelly Smith F/M Kelley O'Hara F Lauren Cheney F Nikki Washington F Taryn Hemmings F So much for signing Solo! Oh well.
I see that Crybaby FC have traded a 2012 3rd round pick for Mittsie.... This just keeps getting better and better! Maybe AJ can go hold the clipboard for Matty Ice??
I think we've seen the last of Fabiana.... The Breakers have signed Czech National Team forward Pavlina Scasna. Scasna played briefly in the WUSA for the Philadelphia Charge in 2003 approve. Pavlina Scasna looking forward to new challenge in US FWIW Old interview...
We negotiated with Fabiana over the past several months after rendering her a free agent in November. Ultimately, we did make an offer which she decided to turn down. She was very highly regarded by our coaching staff, who feel we have yet to see the best of her at both the club and international level. Although she is two-year veteran, she is still only 21 years old and she presumably has a terrific international career ahead of her. Fabiana benefitted in the short run - but ultimately probably suffered - from one of the exorbitant and unsustainable contracts doled out to some WC/Olympic-level players at the inception of WPS. Most 21-year olds coming into the league today would be satisfied with the contract offered to her for the 2011 season. But for Fabiana, it was the second consecutive year of being asked to take a substantial reduction from her rookie season salary. In that context, it is easy to understand her decision. Her expectations were perhaps pegged to the early days of WPS, when some (not all) contracts were untethered to economic reality. For our part, we will have one of the higher payrolls in the league again this season. We've been willing to pay for top performers, but with a contracted league and a concentrated talent pool, the marketplace for players with great potential/upside versus proven producers has been re-set. She and her agent were great to deal with and we parted amicably.
