The rules right now is that 1st place teams will face second placed teams in the quarterfinals. But you are right, concacaf could always change the rule after the group stage.
http://www.concacaf.com/page/CL/NewsDetail/0,,12813~2381693,00.html says: "CONCACAF Champions League Preliminary Round All Times U.S. Eastern First Leg Tuesday, July 26 San Francisco (PAN) vs. Seattle Sounders (USA), 8 p.m. Herediano (CRC) vs. Alpha United (GUY), 10 p.m. Wednesday, July 27 Toronto FC vs. Real Estelí FC (NCA), 8 p.m.* Isidro Metapán (SLV) vs. Puerto Rico Islanders (PUR), 8 p.m. Santos Laguna FC (MEX) vs. CD Olimpia (HON), 10 p.m. Vancouver Whitecaps (CAN) vs. Real Estelí FC (NCA), 10 p.m. * *Pending outcome of Canadian championship final on July 2 Thursday, July 28 Monarcas Morelia (MEX) vs. Tempete FC (HAI), 8 p.m. Alianza FC (SLV) vs. FC Dallas (USA), 10 p.m. CD Motagua (HON) vs. CSD Municipal (GUA), 10 p.m. Second Leg Tuesday, August 2 Real Estelí (NCA) vs. Toronto FC or Vancouver Whitecaps (CAN), 10 p.m. Wednesday, August 3 FC Dallas (USA) vs. Alianza FC (SLV), 8 p.m. Tempete FC (HAI) vs. Monarcas Morelia (MEX), 8 p.m. Puerto Rico Islanders (PUR) vs. Isidro Metapán (SLV), 8 p.m. Seattle Sounders (USA) vs. San Francisco (PAN), 10 p.m. CD Olimpia (HON) vs. Santos Laguna FC (MEX), 10 p.m. Thursday, August 4 Alpha United (GUY) vs. Herediano (CRC), 8 p.m. CSD Municipal (GUA) vs. CD Motagua (HON), 10 p.m."

Frings and Koevermans will have something to say about that possibility assuming that they're not in shock about discovering that they'll be playing a match in Nicaragua.
So Seattle vs. San Fransisco is the first game on the 26th, I did not know San Fran had a team, are they MLS? I know San Francisco Panama!
CCL should do Apertura Clausura that would double the amount of trophies. Or split the Mexican season into Summer, Fall, Winter and Spring tournaments, that way Mexico can have 4 champions per year.
San Francisco FC hopefully plays better this time..not like the previous times (horrible horrible)...shoot, I might even show up in Seattle game with my SF jersey (though i'm really an Arabe Unido fan, but it's a country thing u know, gotta rep my PTY)
actually, CCL should do like s. america tournaments, just take up half of a year. copa lib takes up just half of years, and the same is true of copa sud. the 2nd half of the year for CCL would be better so as to have the winner in top form when going to the Club World cup. W/Tevez going to corinthians, and them not having made copa lib or copa sud this year, I'd say concacaf should offer them a couple of mil to participate in CCL...if it had been just half of year...there's always time to change it LA or Sea vs Tevez & company would not have been bad to watch...not at all.
they have good attacking football and their defense is decent to combat any MLS team from what I saw back last year.
Fox Soccer Channel is broadcasting all MLS team games in the preliminaries. But are any of the other games going to be on tv. I mean you'd think at least the games involving the Mexican teams would be on the idiots latrern. Anybody know about it?
nothing posted yet about a tv schedule on Concacaf's site. there is a link (titled "Click Here for TV Schedule") at the following page: http://www.concacafchampions.com/page/CL/Schedule/0,,12856,00.html but that link currently leads to the generic dates/calendar pdf file. at some point (perhaps not until some point within the last week of July), Concacaf may update that link to be the tv schedule. (last season, that link would be a pdf file listing full tv coverage options throughout the Concacaf region.) likely the Univision family of networks will carry some games (on TeleFutura and/or Galavision). look for updates here: http://futbol.univision.com/horarios-por-tv/
Myp2p.eu has both the Seattle and Toronto games listed but the link won't be available until 1500GMT on game day.
thanks Neals. Toronto and Whitecaps streams are very very hard to find. Maybe it deals w/them being in canada, not sure why but big thanks.
