No surprise, it was one of the best pairs of the Bundesliga last year.

With his runs he's cutting a bit more inside recently, and tends to go more into the box. I get the impression he is trying to get a goal.

Anyway, good game. But above all, he seems to take it all more serious then when he was an automatic starter.

I think learning and surviving have always been two strong points of Ucchi's. He's proved it again by coming out stronger through Stevens' 'cold storage' method earlier, when almost all of us were begging for him to just leave the club.

But of course, he does still look a bit too dependent on confidence to play decent, hopefully the mental and physical skills he has picked up while away from the first team will go some way in correcting that.

Nice to see him finally getting a decent run in the starting lineup anyway.

Schalke were too offensive after Raul's 2nd goal.

I understand why Stevens took off Draxler and Hoger because he didn't want a 1-1 game, but maybe he shouldn't have taken both off at the same time.

Jurado and Holtby are offensively minded midfielders and don't contribute much on defense.

Every time Athletic went forward they had more men than Schalke because there was no support from the midfield.

You nailed it. I liked Kluge last year, could have been useful today.

No, but there's still no reason to replace him with Höger who wasn't any better. The only thing he did today was slowing down the game on the right.

Agree. Still never a good sign when a side back is subbed out. Hmm. I wonder if Hoger will get the start next week.

Tremendous game by him today. Even if it was no negative substitution, I still think Stevens will prefer Höwedes though.

Yeah, Stevens will probably bunker down and play it conservative to keep Schalke 3rd. They don't have to go for wins too much.

Decent end of season run for Uschi though.

Which reminds me: Is his contract expiring this summer? Any extension talks? Transfer rumours?

June 2013, but no rumours about extension or transfer whatsoever. Schalke is currently busy talking with Raul, Farfan and Huntelaar also.
