In re the footage of the Liverpool fans chanting, to Chelsea fans, that they have no history - the difficulty with that is that the tune itself is appropriated from a Chelsea chant (Carefree/wherever you may be/we are the Famous C.F.C., etc.) - so there's a subtext which obviously wouldn't work in our case. Moreover, to the extent that Henry was an arch-rival of Chelsea while at Arsenal, he'd probably get a chuckle. How about a simple, yet effective chant: Red Bull gives you Wings ... BUT NO CUPS! Alternatively, in re Angel, something to the effect of "your own team doesn't want you anymore" might work. We're not singing "You ain't got no history". We're taking their tune and changing the lyrics. There's no subtext that's being lost or that wouldn't work here. There are a ton of just Union songs that we never ever ever do on that sheet. The last match might not be the time for new Union stuff. I like most of the anti-NY chants. Whatever happened to: We all hate Red Bull x 4 Call: 15 years! - Response: No Cups! x4 Repeat. That was a good one at the draft.
We've done everything on the first page in the last few games. There are only a few new Union songs: Knighton (which a few people started at a recent game but hasn't caught on yet), Can't Get Enough (which people have been clamoring to do at this game) and Glory Philadelphia (which is one I personally like). People want more variety in the chants, so I try to throw a few new ones on every song sheet to see what sticks. Good call. I'm sure this one will turn up even though it's not on the sheet. It's on there.
