    Phillies sign Lee.

It's December 14th and the Mets season is officially over already. No point in trying to put out our weak ass rotation lead by R.A Dickey. We will end up in last place this year.

It's going to be a long season in NY

As long as I don't have to see Castillo's ugly face, I'm totally fine. Listen, this season is a wash. We all know that. We go with what we have, ride out the season, hopefully at least play hard, and wait until 2011 when a lot of shitty contracts come off the books. If we do nothing during the winter of 2011, then I'll start to worry. Right now, I don't expect shit except a modicum of respectability, which we got just by dumping Omar.

Two low risk, high reward signings. I like it.

Wouldn't mind making a run at Chris Young now. Always liked him.

agreed, and I think thats the next signing.

so it would be something like Pelfrey/Dickey/Niese/Young/Capuano with Gee in AAA ready for the first opening. Meija and Santana midseason. Its not terrible.

Not terrible at all. And the lineup has enough talent to score runs so things might turn out better than we expect. I'm still not getting my hopes up and am realistic, but you never know.

Still worry that the pen isn't effective/can't keep their hands to themselves.

yep, they need to add a lefty specialist. maybe more pressing than another SP.

can you take 1 lefty and piece him with Parnell/Bucholz/Carrasco as the bridge to KRod?

It's terrible, dude. I haven't had hopes this low since the mid-90s and I lived through the late 70s. 2012 might be OK, this year is going to be a Wilpon-induced clusterf*ck. Pelfrey would be lucky to be a #5 on Philly and we still have Ollie Oops and The Dropper at 2nd.

Oh, c'mon. It won't be so bad! Omar's gone!!!! Jerry's gone!!!! You gotta look at this team in the long term.

you do have to look long-term as Otter says.

But, OP and Castillo won't be on this team...they'll cut them in ST.

The everyday lineup is decent and with Collins in charge you'll see the team finally playing the game the right way, like they did under Bobby V.

I also think we've been conditioned to expect something major and getting it. You look over the past couple of seasons, we've added K-Rod and Bay. Even signings like Sheffield got you a little excited. But no more slapping a band-aid on a gunshot. We need to build this team with the workable pieces that we have, remove the dead weight and add a few bargains.

I love that Sandy is going to have Jose Reyes prove his worth to him. I know Jose has had trouble staying healthy but to me, his main problem is his baseball skills. He keeps regressing (semi-based on memorized stats, semi-based on visual) when he should be one of the best players in the game. We know he has that in him but we don't always see it. If Sandy's evaluation of him in his contract year is going to make Jose mature finally, I'm all for it.

I also love how Sandy let Feliciano go. I loved Feliciano and he provided a great service, but he was never going to be anything more than a lefty specialist. The Yanks overpaid for him and I guarantee you he'd still be a Met if Omar was here. Might have an even bigger contract.

With the front office that we have, it's too talented to fail. But at the same time, it's going to take time and I'm excited about this team. And it's not a "Oh, the season's a week away, fine, I'm into it" feeling. For the first time in a couple of seasons, I'm genuinely excited for baseball to start long before pitchers and catchers report, spring training, etc.

I'd like to join in your youthful optimism, guys, I really would. As a Met fan I always have a little hope even in down years. But I'm not convinced the Wilpons have what it takes as owners to get the job done. Usually they're pleased with second-best or almost-star signings.

Philly has a solid lineup and and all-star staff. Even when we dig ourelves out of this morass of old-times and sucky hangers on, we have to face Philly. They really sprinted by us like Ben Johnson vs. Carl Lewis

dont get caught up with Philly, nearly all of their offensive players are in decline. Plus with the wildcard there are 2 routes to get in the playoffs. Mets can battle for that in the short term and have Sandy work on the long-term plan the right way (finally).

I have to believe the Wilpons will stay out of Alderson's way, so what they are won't matter much.

Haha. What makes you think Jeff is going to go sailing the whole summer and not meddle in the GMs affairs? It's the only thing this worthless son-of-an-owner knows how to do

Well, I think I remember reading when Sandy got hired that ownership would let him run the team. I think there will always be input but supposedly there will be less meddling. The Mets claim they read EVERYTHING that is said about them, be it in print, cyberspace and they listen to the radio. I'm sure they've read and heard everything that has been said about them and hopefully they'll learn to not interfere AS MUCH.

Jeffy Boy said that the new GM will have autonomy but there will always be Wilpon input on the big moves. So really no GM will have full autonomy is what he's sayin
