Any chance Espinoza will leave? He wasn't a happy camper last season.

He could be through trade, but I don't think it'll happen. He's under contract for 2 more years and is still a GA player.

That is good to hear -- kid has a ton of potential and can be a real impact player down the road. ;)

    +2

Big fan of Espinoza... I hope that his frustrations were due to Vermes trying to keep him GA for another season. While I can understand that it would be frustrating, it also is easy to understand and makes sense...

One blogger's speculation on roster shakeup from the The Offside. Advocates cutting Kraus, Marquess, McKenzie, Pardo, and Souter.

You can vote in the poll at the bottom on the 18 players we should keep from the current squad.

So, basically, keep everyone that played regularly during our dismal performance and cut our backups. A near perfect plan!

Funny thing is, this guy had been fairly outspoken late in the season about young guys playing and sitting those guys that were playing bad.

Maybe he's just looking out for them. Trying to get them out of town while they can still score goals. ;)

    Re: 2009-2010 Offseason

Not that I agree with his selections but the way I read it he basically "kept" 8 or 9 and made the rest a toss up. Still with the MLS Transfer rules out there which I am painfully ignorant about, does someone really see more than 8 new faces in Spring? I all for a total blowup of the team but I have to realistic about it and that doesn't seem to be the case.

BTW (and on another note not from this forum but interesting anyway) Abe Thompson to RSL? who would have thunk?

I guess you're right. I'd have to add it to my list of blissfull ignorance that already includes:

    1. What my wife it really saying
    2. What my kids are really saying
    3. The complexity of nuclear physics; AND
    4. Where my tax dollars really go.

Great I have 5 things on the list. It seems the older I get the more things I'm OK being ignorant about.

You are right, I know them a little bit, and it only gets more confusing the more you learn about MLS transfer rules it seems.

    Re: 2009-2010 Offseason

My comically compiled list of players available this offseason that I think would make for interesting additions (and yes, bigsoccer conversation):

    1. Vincenzo Bernardo
    2. Sol Campbell
    3. Robbie Rogers
    4. Lee Nguyen
    5. Jan Koller
    6. Gonzalo Segares
    7. Guillermo Barros Schelotto
    8. Eddie Robinson
    9. Brian Mullan
    10. Amado Guevara
    11. DaMarcus Beasley
    12. Luciano Emilio

Whatcha think? What else is the offseason for but unwarranted, baseless speculation...

    Re: 2009-2010 Offseason

Bernardo hasn't really proven anything, I wouldn't mind him coming in and seeing what he'd do but I wouldn't be anywhere near disappointed if we didn't get him.

The only name on the list that I really don't want it Nguyen. Maybe it's the fact that he just got done playing in Vietnam, but I'm not overly impressed with him. Yes he started at PSV, but plenty of rising players start at good clubs and don't really amount to anything. He didn't really get games there, didn't at Randers really either (although he got more than John), before moving on to Vietnam.

I'm seeing lots of sites linking Santiago Hirsig to Colo-Colo in Chile...some seem to suggest he has already moved. Any Spanish translators care to help us out...

Interesting, it definitely looks like they're expecting his arrival. The first quote you have translates very loosely from google as "the virtual arrival of midfielder Santiago Hirsig". Which I guess could mean impending arrival like the deal is done, definitely something to keep an eye on over the next few days.

    Re: 2009-2010 Offseason

Nooooo our Alex Song is leaving .....

...... I know Hirsig didn't have much love in certain quarters but I really thought he had a quiet and affective quality that we need. I don't really think we have an automatic replacement for a holding midfielder do we??

If not that is a new weak spot ... Robb Heineman, I know you are reading. There is this skinny black guy I know, used to play for some team in London before some other team in Italy bought him. His name is Patrick Viera and he would be a huge draw ..... :)

My pipe dreams aside ..... who fills this spot??

WOW! ...... that'd be freaking awesome. Raul has plenty left in the tank - he'd be welcomed with open arms at any team in the Premier League I should think.

Ives Galarcep is saying it wouldn't work. Ego, salary demands and no boost in ticket sales would put off any MLS team he might be interested in. Ives' words, not mine.

Eddie Johnson is for sale. I did not like him that first season he played for us, but he scores goals. The Wizards need goals, so I think we should bring him back.

MLS rarely if ever pays transfer fees so unless Fulham release him, it ain't happening.
