Objectively Korea is the underdog for the clash against Uruguay, ranked 16th in the world by FIFA. But the unbeaten Latin Americans revealed that they are wary of Korea's Park Ji-sung and Park Chu-young. "In 2002, they (South Korea) played really well. They always play in these competitions so they deserve the respect. I know it's going to be tough," Diego Forlan said at a press conference at his team's base camp in Kimberley, central South Africa. "You know it will be a very difficult game. They have really good players. It will be tough," the Atletico Madrid forward said. Forlan was the top scorer in the Spanish League in the 2008-09 season with 32 goals. Last season he scored 18 goals, to rank fifth. The Uruguay superstar also mentioned the two Parks. "You can pick Park Ji-sung. He is one of the most known players. Number 10 (Park Chu-young) is also good," Forlan said. "South Korea is a good team with good players and with a good touch of the ball. Every time we play against South Korea, it is a difficult game." The Uruguay daily newspaper El Pais also touched on the Korean lone striker Park Chu-young. It said that Park is an energetic dangerous player saying "Even if he doesn't see much of the ball Park moves a lot to create space for Park Ji-sung." The newspaper also said Korea's defensive midfielders provide a platform for the three attackers, the most eye-catching tactic of manager Huh Jung-moo. "As we have played against Korea we know a few players in the squad," said Uruauayan midfielder Egidio Arevalo. "Especially we all know about Park Ji-sung playing for Manchester United. "There are a few key players but the main one to make the Korea team wonderful is Park." Uruguayan coach Oscar Tabarez also noted that South Korea is a "very dangerous" team in "good physical" condition, but observed that it is better on offense than defense. "We should just concentrate on giving 100 percent rather than overly-worrying about our opponents," Park Ji-sung stated.
http://www.fifa.com/worldcup/statistics/teams/team=43822/index.html Very, very interesting. They have KJW ranked as #2 on our team according to their player-ranking system. He has a tidy Pass Completion Rate of 73% (132 attempts). LYP is a boss as usual with a team-topping 80% (158) while LJS has made 74% (140). KSY also has 78% (111). Surprisingly, Capt. Park has made 62% (112) of his passes and LCY has made 65% (105). PCY is even worse with 53.6% (82) but surprisingly has made 70% (10) of his long-range passes whereas most of the team has a very low completion rate on long passes, the team average on long passes being 49% (289). KJW is also very close to Capt. Park in distance covered, with 31.9km over three matches compared to Park's 32.7. LCY has also been a workhorse, covering 32.5km and 11.4 against Nigeria alone. Yeom has 29.95km even though he came off against Nigeria, and ran 11.4 against Greece. CYH looks really bad statistically, 60.95% (105) pass completion, 25.84 km covered and leading the team with 8 fouls. Just some interesting numbers, maybe some of you can mine that site for more useful info!
I promised that I would be the moderator for four more years if Korea made it out of the group stage. If Korea advances to the QFs, I promise I won't resign as a moderator for another four years.
