They used to go by "Menace Reserves" in this tournament. It's a mix of former players and some younger guys. Yesterday's lineup:
Had this pointed out to me by someone, there's a new league with a team in Des Moines, the National Star Soccer League. http://nationalstarsoccerleague.com/index.htm Apparently there's going to be a team called Real Des Moines and a team in Sioux City, Omaha, and Schuyler, NE, along with KC and Emporia. http://www.flickr.com/photos/national_star_soccer_league/sets/72157623620077105/
I am intrigued although there is absolutely nothing on the web about them. According to that site, they played a home match on Saturday. However, we do not know where...there is nothing on Facebook, Twitter, anything. When you consider the issues that the Menace have reaching certain groups, a well-run club could potentially do fine without necessarily impacting the Menace. By the way, Real Des Moines FC is a terrible name, but that is a sweet crest.
Here is my prediction for the Alberto Garcia Aspe appearance... You will see a brief influx of Mexican fans for one game. These fans would possibly be core Menace supporters if the games were anywhere but Valley Stadium. They will briefly step out of their comfort zone to see Aspe, but will not really want to venture back to Valley for future games. We should make them feel welcome and try to attract them back, even if the stadium and location are not ideal. As much as I'm not a fan of the Mexican National Team, I would readily welcome their fans to the fold of Menace supporters. They are knowledgeable, enthusiastic, and passionate. They would likely want to embrace something local and make it excellent. Most importantly, they probably don't give a flying f*** about the t-shirt cannon. I hope that the draw of Alberto Garcia Aspe brings a few new long term fans, but I'm not sure that will happen.
That is a horrible site. Like honestly I could build one better with my eyes closed. Damn that's awful.
God, through a "United" & "1851" on that and I think you'd have hit every possible psuedo European soccer name ever. Good lord.Anybody know where they are going to play. That website says jack.

Interesting last I heard from my parents my brother was still deciding between Des Moines and staying in KC this summer...
I'm not saying he should have chose the Brass. I'm just saying last I heard (Sunday) he was still deciding.
Tomorrow night's game kicks off at 7:30. While things aren't finalized regarding tailgating for the season, tomorrow what we are going to do is grab the first northernmost spots in the church parking lot to the south of the stadium. I'm expecting to be around at 6:00. Bring cups! If you ordered a Join or Die USA scarf, I will have them tomorrow night. $22 cash.
