Now the matches in Group D will have to be delayed for "Thursday, Friday, and Sunday, or perhaps Thursday, Saturday and Tuesday" after Bath Estate (DCA) experienced travel problems and couldn't show up in Guyana on time. http://www.stabroeknews.com/2010/sp...ls-to-arrive-to-keep-alpha-united-engagement/
Bayamon Fc v. System 3 will paly on Saturday and Sunday due to System 3 having travel problems... yay... not... anyways FBTV will be transmting tonight friendly v. the PR islanders and Saturday's match. www.futbolboricua.net
...and now Bath Estate (DCA) is out too for travel issues, leaving a three-team Group D. http://www.concacaf.com/page/CL/NewsDetail/0,,12813~2005773,00.html
Just to verify with you guys: so it says on CONCACAF's website that almost every starter on River Plate Ponce is Argentinean. Is that the case, and if so, why would the PRSL allow that?
Because most have american passports... but that wont be the team for the local league.. just the team for international play I bet.
Unless the PRSL has a foreigner limit rule .. There is nothing to stop them.. Or if most of the Argentinians have US Passports like someone said, how can they stop it ?
At this moment, River is doing it indirectly. How? Focusing the attention to Puerto Rico as the Islanders does (nevertheless, Islanders still having more Boricuas than River, for now). That’s way we are able talk abut a Caribbean league with Puerto Rico as central base. As a counterpart, you have a Bayamon FC that has 7 Boricuas on the current team playing on CFU with 4 of the 6 goals scored. Maybe we are over demanding the PR’s football progress. We have to be patient. It took years to become a powerhouse in baseball, basketball, volleyball, boxing, gymnastic, etc, etc (if have any doubt check the world ranking). Meanwhile, I don’t mine that River use its Argentinean team to kill in our local league because, believed or not, it will force the locals to raise its playing standards, to do the extra effort, to grow.
X2 I agree completely And I'm really looking forward to this USL=PRSL union With teams like ASJ, Tornados, and Huracan gone and adding teams form other islands it will be interesting and it will definately help the Caribbean raise its level.
Could someone who understands the rules better than myself explain how the "best third-place team" will be chosen? As of right now, Leo Victor of Suriname clearly beats out Barber of the Netherlands Antilles...but I'm not sure how the comparison will work with whoever finishes at the bottom of Group D. If it will be chosen just based on their group-stage record, then Leo Victor is already through to the next round, since there's no way the third-place team after tomorrow's game will have three points. But if they make the choice UEFA-style (i.e. discounting results against the bottom team for whoever's in the larger group), then Leo Victor is screwed (0 points, -3 GD) unless Alpha United runs up the score on Defense Force. Or will they use percentages (points won/points available), which also favors Leo Victor?
Group D ended tonight with a 3-1 victory for Alpha United over their domestic rivals Defence Force, thereby knocking the latter out of the tournament and sending Leo Victor of Suriname through to the next round regardless of criteria (if they had dropped the results against the 4th-place teams in Groups A and C, Leo Victor still would have qualified on goals scored). So here are the Groups for Round 2 and the games (source: wiki page of the tournament): Group E (Host: Puerto Rico) Puerto Rico Islanders (PUR) Alpha United (GUY) Racing des Gonaïves (HAI) Group F (Puerto Rico) Tempête FC (HAI) Bayamón FC (PUR) Avenues United (SVG) Group G (Trinidad and Tobago) San Juan Jabloteh (TRI) River Plate Ponce (PUR) Leo Victor (SUR) Group H (Trinidad and Tobago) Joe Public (TRI) Systems 3 (SVG) Walking Boys (SUR) ------- Matchday 1 (Tuesday, April 13): E - Puerto Rico Islanders (PUR) vs. Racing des Gonaïves (HAI) F - Tempête FC (HAI) vs. Avenues United (SVG) G - San Juan Jabloteh (TRI) vs. Leo Victor (SUR) H - Joe Public (TRI) vs. Walking Boys (SUR) Matchday 2 (Thursday, April 15): E - Racing des Gonaïves (HAI) vs. Alpha United (GUY) F - Avenues United (SVG) vs. Bayamón FC (PUR) G - Leo Victor (SUR) vs. River Plate Ponce (PUR) H - Walking Boys (SUR) vs. Systems 3 (SVG) Matchday 3 (Saturday, April 17): E - Puerto Rico Islanders (PUR) vs. Alpha United (GUY) F - Tempête FC (HAI) vs. Bayamón FC (PUR) G - San Juan Jabloteh (TRI) vs. River Plate Ponce (PUR) H - Joe Public (TRI) vs. Systems 3 (SVG)
And here's a write-up from Starbroek News (Guyana) of the decisive game in Group D: http://www.stabroeknews.com/2010/sports/03/31/alpha-humbles-gdf-to-win-group-d/
Update: now we have yet another change to the tournament (btw, what does Puerto Rico have against Guyana? ). The CFU wanted to head off visa issues at the pass, for which reason Alpha United (GUY) is now going to play in Group C in T&T, while Leo Victor of Suriname will now join the Islanders and Racing des Gonaives in Group A. http://www.concacafchampions.com/page/CL/NewsDetail/0,,12856~2012630,00.html
Or maybe because Leo Victor is better than Alpha United and Papa Jack wants them on his country's group?
I would buy that, except the same thing happened with Defence Force of Guyana in the last round (getting bumped to another group b/c they weren't allowed in PR).
PR don't have anything against Guyana. There are some visa issues, so thats the way it is... or maybe iHaveAnOrangeItch its right...
Please, don't forget that USA control all PR immigration. Nevertheless, the PR Football Fed says that those teams fail to submit the documents at time. You now (I do) how difficult is to deal with INS.
