The penalty was not given by Huang Bowen. Korean media made a mistake.

Looking more likely to be the case for Tan unfortunately.
Whitecaps' management really blew it if they had intended on Tan to "win over" a more diverse fanbase in Vancouver. The best thing they COULD have done to make a profit and also benefit the sh1t team right now? Probably try to sign a guy like Dong (and market the fact that hes ex ManUtd and Chinese) who is hungry to comeback (and is willing to play in friggin Mika), and a Korean player like Lee Dong Guk or Ahn Jung Hwan.
These players could no doubt still be a threat in the MLS and would still have the "star power" to help Whitecap ticket sales in a Vancouver market increasingly dominated by Canuck fandom.

There's a very big Chinese market in Vancouver, but I doubt that market even cares about Chinese Soccer. For one, there's a lot of HK and Taiwanese there and they couldn't care any less about Mainland Chinese football players. In the case of the Taiwanese living in Vancouver, they probably hate Mainland Chinese like there's no tomorrow. Then you have the Mainlanders there. If they follow soccer at all, they will know that Chinese soccer is terrible and Chinese soccer players are terrible. ha ha ha. On top of that, most Chinese soccer fans now follow European leagues. MLS???? What's that? So there really isn't much there with the Vancouver Whitecaps. If our washed up players like Dong go to the whitecaps, it won't boost ticket sales or tv ratings at all.

From time to time, I look at CSL. You'll noticed that our best teams do very poorly in the ACL. Man, I don't think Chinese soccer improved at all.

    typical chinesefootballfan

not sure if the above is the same in your area, toronto.
but living in vancouver for a decade, here is the analysis from my experience:

typical taiwanese's attitude toward mainland football:
    - don't give a shit
    - don't care about football, even taiwanese football, hell, they don't even know who is Lu Kunchi and Chen Po-liang
    - all they care is baseball

typical hk/macau people's attitude toward mainland football:
    - 50% cares (including me), but they only remember china's victory over france and south korea lolol
    - 50% don't give a shit, they only focus in premier league, and to the lesser extent, the hk football league

typical mainlanders' attitute toward mainland football:
    - most don't give a blipping fcuk, hate it for corruption
    - BUT, they still care about mainland football at some extent, and want chinese football to improve

however, i would argue that, if dong fangzhuo suddenly arrive in vancouver or even toronto fc, it would still generate buzz and attention because he was a former national team and manchester united player. how many former big 4 players play in MLS now?

bigsoccer china is almost the last resort for us, hardcore and embarrassed chinese fans :( (maybe chinesefootballfan is the exception )

TFC fans are a mixture of everything, not a lot of Asian fans by the way. Mainlanders couldn't care less about MLS. TFC fans want good players. Dong???? Come on man. If he can't even hack it in CSL, what makes you think he can hack it here? MLS has surpassed CSL a decade ago. It's still a crappy league, just not as crappy as CSL.

Major League Soccer - Tan Long (Vancouver Whitecaps) - DID NOT DRESS.

    Notes:
    - this is the first match under the new Whitecaps coach
    - I am not sure has Tan Long recovered from his injury yet
    - Eric Hassli, Whitecaps' main striker, was red carded for the third time this season , so if Tan Long recovers early, he might have a spot back

    Stats:
Major League Soccer: 1 start, 2 subs
Total: 3 games from 1 start, 2 subs.

NAMELESS 17 YEAR OLD KID PENDING TO BE SIGNED BY GERMAN CHAMPION DORTMUND

Jiang Dongnan and me = future Li Tie and Sun Jihai.

Huang Yuedi, a 17 year old kid from Guangzhou, is pending to be signed by Borussia Dortmund. Huang will travel with his family at the end of the month to finalize the details and possibly sign a four-year contract.

Huang was born on June 3rd, 1994. He is 180cm tall and he weights 72kg. He plays as a left defender and he is known for his speed. Huang had a trial at Guangzhou Sunway Cave FC (second tier Chinese club) but he was not accepted. After being persuaded by his agent, Huang decided to join Dortmund youth's training and his skills were accepted.

Huang Yuedi said the environment in Chinese football is not good. He mentioned that he could learn more and find more opportunity oversea. His talent not only attracted Dortmund, it also attracted offers from an unknown Denmark first tier and Belgium second tier team. Both teams guaranteed first team football for Huang, but he preferred to go to Dortmund to learn and establish his skills. Huang also noted Dortmund has a very good youth system and he could benefit from it.

China should just outsource its football development to Europe, like how the EU outsources manufacturing to China. Boom, China-EU trade imbalance balanced.
