Northeast Region Power Rankings after Round 4 of matches. Just a note, the Northeast Regional Final will consist of only the winner of the Atlantic Conference vs. the winner of the Keystone Conference. These are unofficial rankings that I'm just having fun typing out and really go by press releases and results.

    1) Buffalo City (last #1, 1st in Keystone). BCFC stays at #1 after taking care of business over a difficult double match weekend. First up they dispatched Charm City FC in Baltimore, then travelled a little way up to Allentown, PA and took down title holders, Penn Stoners while posting two clean sheets in the process. They now are 5-0-0 and are at the halfway point of their season with a massive weekend against the Erie Admirals this weekend in Buffalo and the return leg the following weekend.

    2) Boston Aztec (last week #4, 1st in Atlantic). The Aztec result vs. Morris County isn’t in yet; however they do sit atop the Atlantic Conference even without knowing the result.

    3) Erie Admirals (last week #6, 2nd in Keystone). The Erie Admirals remain undefeated at 3-0-1. Traveling partner to Buffalo City, they also played Charm City and Penn Stoners, taking the double over both clubs this weekend with 2-1 victories in both contests.

    4) Long Island Academy (last week #3, 2nd in Atlantic). Long Island AFC have posted two clean sheets in a row, first blanking the Aztec 5-nil and then taking the NYC derby against NYAC 3-nil. They are now 2-0-0 on the season and looking to possibly fulfill my prophecy of a Buffalo/Long Island Northeastern Regional.

    5) Charm City FC (last week #2, 3rd in Keystone). Dropped two straight to Buffalo City and Erie. Both matches were tough close battles, but now they are 2-2 on the season and need to make sure not to drop anymore home matches and hope Erie/Buffalo don’t pull away too far.

    6) Pennsylvania Stoners (last week #5, 4th in Keystone). The Stoners dropped two hard-fought matches to Buffalo City (2-nil) and Erie Admirals (2-1). Like Charm City they need to finish the season strong to have a chance to repeat as the Northeast Region champion. They now sit at 1-2-1.

    7) FC Reading Revolution (last week #8, 5th in Keystone). FC Reading’s young squad is slowly starting to gel. This could mean great things for them in the future, as they topped fellow Eastern PA rival, Pocono Snow, in a 4-3 thriller.

    8) Maine Sting (last week #11, 3rd in Atlantic). Are now 1-1 on the season with a nicely won match over visiting Morris County Colonials on Saturday. They have a long way to go in their season and we’ll see if this second year club can start to climb the charts.

    9) Pocono Snow (last week #7, 6th in Keystone). The snow are slowly slipping down the charts, losing to fellow newcomers FC Reading Revolution 4-3 in Reading this weekend. They now sit at 0-4-1 on the season.

    10) New York Athletic Club (last week #9, 4th in Atlantic). Dropped a midweek match vs. Long Island AFC 3-nil in their first match of the 2009 season.

    11) Morris County Colonials (last week #10, 4th in Atlantic). MCC had the long trip up the Atlantic seaboard to try and topple Northeast original founder Boston Aztec and Maine Sting. They unfortunately fell short against Maine and from initial reports may have also fallen short to Boston as well.

Keem probably can answer this ... is there still a 3-point deduction for a forfeit?

    1) Erie Admirals (last week #3, 2nd in Keystone) Erie moves up to the #1 slot in my power rankings with their 1-nil victory at Buffalo City. In a tug of hearts decision the club I grew up playing for beat the club I had helped found in pieces. I will be at the return leg of this key matchup in the Keystone Conference this Saturday. I guess it works out I get to go and get some home cooking. Erie is sitting on 13 points from 5 matches while Buffalo has 15 points from 6 matches.

    2) Boston Aztec (last week #2, 1st in Atlantic). Boston is awarded a 1-nil victory over the Long Island Academy FC who were overcome with the flu and had only 8 players available due to the illness. Unfortunately for LI AFC, the match could not be re-scheduled. Boston now has 12 points off of 5 matches.

    3) Buffalo City (last week #1, 1st in Keystone). How is the first place team #3 you ask? They lost. Which moves you down in the unofficial northeast power rankings. They have a chance to move back up these rankings with a win in the return leg of their Lake Erie derby this coming weekend at Family First Sports Park. Buffalo has 15 points from 6 matches.

    4) Maine Sting (last week #8, 2nd in Atlantic). Yes you read that right. Maine Sting have climbed 4 spots after their crazy trip of 3 matches in 4 days. Only they would schedule that many matches in such a short time, but it paid off as they were more refreshed than teams who only played one game this past matchweek. A draw against Long Island AFC and a win over NYAC moved them up to their highest position in the table ever! Maine have 7 points off of 5 matches.

    5) Long Island Academy FC (last week #4, 3rd in Atlantic). They did manage to play one game this weekend against Maine Sting and drew 2-2, unfortunately the Flu (not the piggy kind…we hope) has infected the team and were unable to reschedule their match against Boston. They finished the week 0-1-1, dropping to third in the standings with 7 points off of 5 matches. They have to make up those 5 points on Boston to make the post-season as only the top team moves on.

    6) Pennsylvania Stoners (last week #6, 3rd in Keystone). The Stoners bounced back with a 1-nil victory over Charm City. In a match both teams were looking towards the Champs didn’t go down and still hold feint hopes of clipping Erie and Buffalo. They still play both away. The Stoners have 7 points off of 5 matches.

    7) Charm City FC (last week #5, 4th in Keystone). After their successful run in the Region I US Open Cup Qualifying tournament, the Stoners have dropped their last 3 league matches. Much like their first season, the charm has worn off. They started off undefeated in 2008 and then the wheels fell off towards the end. They are hoping to get back on track with their next match. CCFC has 6 points off of 5 matches.

    8) Morris County Colonials (last week #11, 4th in Atlantic). The Colonials got their first ever victory with a 5-1 comprehensive spanking of Maine to avenge their loss a couple weeks ago in the Maine Forest where they lost their way. It took 1.5 years, but they did it and finally have their first 3 points. Well done Mr. Sones & crew, well done.

    9) FC Reading Revolution (last week #7, 5th in Keystone). They didn’t play this week, so they went down.

    10) Pocono Snow (last week #9). They didn’t play this week, so they went down.

    11) New York Athletic Club (last week #10). Dropped a home match against Maine Sting to stay winless on the season. However, they have only played 2 matches and have a long way to go to catch up to Boston. If they win the 3 matches they have in hand, they will be one game out of first place.

    1) Erie Admirals (last week #1, 1st in Keystone). Erie maintains their grip on the first seed in my weekly power rankings thanks to a dominating performance over slumping Buffalo City FC at Family First Sports Park in Erie this past weekend. Playing for 1st place, The Admirals have a match in hand are now sitting on 16 points. With 4 matches remaining, this weekend includes a massive double bill against teams trying to catch them in the Penn Stoners and Charm City FC.
    2) Penn Stoners (last week #6, 3rd in Keystone). The Stoners are starting to build momentum ahead of their key double bill against Buffalo and Erie this upcoming weekend. With a 3-nil victory over FC Reading Revolution in this round. The Stoners are sitting on 10 points from 6 matches and winning both matches this weekend would take them even with the final two matches of the season to go.
    3) Boston Aztec (last week #2, 1st in Atlantic). Boston lost a chance at home to solidify their grip on 1st place in the Atlantic by drawing against 10-man Maine Sting. Boston has a 5 point lead with 2 games left on their schedule against last place New York AC.
    4) Buffalo City FC (last week #3, 2nd in Keystone). They have lost their grip on the Keystone title that they had seemingly won by the mid-way point of the season. Sitting on 15 points with 3 matches left, they need some help to bring a 2nd conference title to Buffalo in three years. A disappointing loss to Erie again saw them swap places in the league ladder and with two huge fixtures this weekend against Penn Stoners and Charm City they may be on top of the table at week end or down to 4th and out of post-season play.
    5) Maine Sting (last week #4, 2nd in Atlantic) has been the surprise of the year thus far taking points on the road from New York AC, Morris County and now Boston. That is a pretty good road record folks. Maine plays at home against both NYC sides, New York AC and Long Island Academy over the next two weeks. We will see if this road form continues at home and to see if the second year club can clip the two established sides in Long Island AFC and Boston Aztec at the wire.
    6) Charm City FC (last week #7, 4th in Keystone). CCFC took 3 out of a possible 6 points this week. An unfortunate accident on the way to the match left half their team in an emergency and the other half left to play in Reading this weekend. Unfortunately those were the 3 vital points they lost in the Keystone title chase. With a big weekend on the Lake Erie trip they can get right back in the hunt.
    7) Morris County Colonials (last week #8, 4th in Atlantic). The Colonials have won 2 straight! With a victory over New York AC the young Colonials are looking to build a fantastic base with which to serve them well for years to come.
    8) FC Reading Revolution (last week #9, 5th in Keystone). The Young Revs won their 2nd ever match in a 1-nil victory over mid-Atlantic foe, Charm City FC. The Revs, much like the Colonials above are looking to build on this young group for years to come and in the next 2-3 years could be a massive force to be reckoned with.
    9) Long Island Academy FC (last week #5, 3rd in Atlantic). They didn’t play this weekend and with 2 matches in hand have to come a long way back to win the conference. They have to play away to Maine and Morris County, they also host New York AC and Morris County in the remaining 4 fixtures. With a 3-point penalty to be added to their points total at the end of the season (for their forfeit to Boston last weekend) they will need to win all 4 of their remaining matches to make their 3rd consecutive post-season.
    10) Pocono Snow (last week #9). They didn’t play this week, so they went down.

    11) New York Athletic Club (last week #11). Lost to Morris County Colonials this weekend and are looking to bounce back with matches against Maine and Boston this weekend which could see them move dramatically up the table.

I'm not sure how 3 of the top 4 ranked teams can come from same conference. Sounds like the ranker might have history with one of the clubs, or perhaps came from one the towns, or both ;)

Shame about the mistakes at the end of a good article.

Long Island are 3-1-1 including their forfeited game, and the Colonials are 2-4. Long Island's -3 points for the Boston no-show, plus the tie wtih a rapidly improving Maine, makes their qualification for the play-offs almost impossible unless Boston self-destruct down the home straight.

Rocket City United dim the Mississippi Brilla 2-1

Two second half goals give RCU the victory over the Brilla, who have only dropped one game all season in the PDL

(Courtesy of Rocket City United Press Release | www.rocketcityunited.com )

Huntsville, AL (July 2, 2009) -- In their first match since beating archrival Atlanta FC, Rocket City United (RCU) stayed undefeated at home, dispatching Mississippi Brilla (7-1-4 PDL) of the Premier Development League 2-1.

Perhaps there was bound to be some letdown for this inter-league showdown after the emotional win over Atlanta. Regardless of the reason, RCU came out flat in the first half, creating few opportunities for themselves, while gifting MS some quality chances.
