ND announces four commitments to kick off 2009: Lindsay Brown, a 5-7 midfielder (Ladera Ranch, Calif./Mater Dei HS/Slammers FC), Leah Fisher, a 5-3 forward (Palm Harbor, Fla./East Lake HS/Clearwater Chargers), Madeline Fox, a 5-8 goalkeeper (San Jose, Calif./Leigh HS/Pleasanton Rage) and Tereza Stastny, a 5-7 forward (Calgary, Alberta/Bishop Carroll HS/Calgary Foothills Colts/Calgary Southwest United Premiers 90 FC)
Has any of the ND faithful heard if anything has happened to the other recruits -- Lauren Amyx, Jazmin Hall, or Liz McNeil? The announcement does allude to two more announcements....
I am also curious about what happened to Lauren Amyx. She is a big time talent and was a major cog on St. Ursala's (Cincinnati) team that was a repeat Ohio state champion this past fall. Additionally, she is one of the reasons that Ohio Elite is one of the best U18 teams - anywhere.
Fear not, everyone ... NCAA compliance and University rules only allow us to release the names of those players who are receiving scholarships their first year ... just because they're not listed in the press release doesn't mean they're not coming - we just can't announce them until they arrive on campus and enroll in school. Just another case of the compliance gymnastics we have to follow. Go Irish!
So, are you hinting that Lauren Amyx will be attending ND? I find this to be a bit odd since her profile page at her club's website has again become active while her teammates that have all signed on the dotted line have taken their profiles down.
I heard that Lauren A. has decided to stay in Ohio. IMO, It will be a much better fit for her from a soccer perspective. Nice player, great pace, from a competitive club team.
Just a few days before signing day Amyx was notified that she was not going to be a part of ND. My understanding was that she was shocked and had no indication that this was going to happen. Heard she is now an Ohio State Buckeye. I hope ND knows what they missed out on and Ohio State knows what they are getting. Great Kid, excellent soccer player.
If what you say is true I've lost a lot of respect for ND and the program. This is a bad situation to put a kid into. The student-athlete has most likely lost out on an opportunity to sign with another program as most schools have given away all of their spots and have started concentrating on the next class. I'm hoping that this is bad Karma for ND and I really hope that Lauren gets a chance to compete against them in the future.
Any news on ND spring exhibition games? Since North Carolina is playing Washington Freedom it would be cool if Notre Dame played the Chicago Red Stars.
I'm a little confused as to why Amyx is going to OSU, whether her choice or something happening on the ND side. I doubt that ND would pull any commitment this late in the game. Unless you talk to her or ND we will never know. It seems as if everything worked out for her. Being a Buckeye can't be that bad.
Actually there is a way to announce a player in such a circumstance that is compliant so if they wanted to they could have.
I'm hearing she had a backended deal with ND with no money the first year. At the 11th hour tOSU had some money free up they were able to offer and voila, Amyx is a Buckeye.
While I don't doubt that this might be the case, I seriously doubt it. For someone instate like Lauren, the cost of tuition, room & board, is less than $17k. Notre Dame, last time I checked was $49k. So, it is hard to believe that OSU coming up with money was the primary reason for the move. Let's all just hope that she has a great year at OSU (if, in fact this is correct)!!
You are absolutely correct. When I first heard about all of this it was easy for me to become emotional and fault ND because I have been following Lauren's career on the pitch for a few years now. There is always more to any story than what initially appears. Initially, it would appear that this is correct. From Ohio Elite's website (OE is Lauren's club): Congratulations to our players for their college commitments: Lauren Amyx (2009), The Ohio State University Lindsay Bell (2009), University of Memphis Ally Berry (2009), Wake Forest University Kate Biggerstaff (2009), Clemson University Caitlin Bresnahan (2009), Washington State University Maggie Brown (2009), Ball State University Elizabeth Burchenal (2010), University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill Tara Campbell (2009), Duke University Emily Cardell (2009), University of Louisville Ashley Daniels (2009), University of Cincinnati Dana Dalrymple (2009), University of Iowa Brooke Eberly (2009), University of Cincinnati Alix Hildal (2009), University of Mississippi Erin Jacobsen (2008), University of Wisconsin-Madison Katie Kerr (2009), College of Charleston Kiley Naylor (2009), University of Virginia Alyssa Rich (2009), University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill Meredith Snow (2008), University of Mississippi Leslie Twehues (2009), University of Kentucky Allie Vernon (2009), Santa Clara University Sarah Vinson (2009), Marshall University However, tOSU is not listing her as a recruit. Here are the recruits they are listing at their website: http://www.ohiostatebuckeyes.com/Vi...299&SPID=10653&DB_OEM_ID=17300&ATCLID=3663449 Hopefully Lauren will have a good career as a Buckeye. The program is improving and Lori Walker is a decent coach.
The University of Notre Dame will play the Chicago Red Stars in a WPS pre-season exhibition match. According to the Chicago Red Stars site it will be on March 28 site/time TBD.
Three days before signing day, Mary Schmidt, who many thought was headed to ND, commits to Texas A&M. Maybe there is nothing too it, but it does make you stop and think!
Stop and think what? sticker shock, maybe? Perhaps because there wasn't/isn't money available for 2009 and with the stock market dropping the value of nest eggs by half, maybe players are going with the money options? ND is pricey - $48K next year. Don't look for underhanded or unethical when it could just be the economy.
48K is identical to several Catholic schools. Portland, Santa Clara, and Boston College come to mind. But there may well be other circumstances coming into play. Perhaps the players in question didn't commit in a timely fashion and the coaching staff moved on? Just a guess.
Alright ND fans what's going on with Notre Dame preseason? Give it up. What about the game with the Red Stars and St. Louis that have been talked about?
