TFC have 3 first round draft picks.

    First Round
    TOR has SJ's pick (O'Brien)
    TOR has CHI's pick (McBride)

    I think TFC has the #2, 4, 13 picks

    Third Round
TOR has CHV's pick (via DAL, Cunningham)

    Fourth Round
    LA has TOR's pick (Harmse)

    who should we get?
I know some offense would be appreciated

Yup, that could mean TFC can get the Canadian O'Brian White, or Marcus Tracy. They will be good players in the league, TFC could get a transfer fee for Tracy.

we're going to need cover for whoever goes to seattle in the expansion draft, unless we're one of the overlooked teams (I have a feeling we won't be).

thats where I was heading. I dont know alot about White but looks like a decent prospect and having him as a cdn would help keep open an International spot right. I think that might make him more valuable to TFC than Tracy.

The real question is what the goal of the draft is. If they are looking for depth players with possible long term impact, I think O'brien White looks better due to his canadian status. If you are talking long term spin (a la Edu, and possibly soon to be Wynne), then you'll see Marcus Tracy taken.

Guess we'll see. A lot depends on what Seattle picks in the first slot, or if any trades are made beforehand.

As long as TFC does not go down the route of the leafs and start drafting people from all over (yeah ok your not going to get a swede in the draft but you know what i mean)

We need canadians but yet again who is of a good enough standrd for the MLS without being too good that they wander off to europe .......

Thats what I'm wondering too, is there any actual quality left in this draft after the world has pillaged the best players. I'm not sure which team, but there was this absolutely amazing player on my hs team (I mean crazy good, impossible to defend against), but he ended up heading to a 2nd div portugese team. When we're losing talent to foreign 2nd divisions, you wonder whats left....

This is precisely what makes MLS such a bush league. How, the best young American talent can opt for a crap team in outer bulgaria over mls, just shows what a mess we are in. What is the point of drafting top young american players? Wynne is going, Edu is gone, Altidore is gone, Adu is gone....etc, etc....better for TFC to draft a schmuck who is just good enough for mls, but not good enough for europe......the salary cap may allow for parity, but it has done nothing to promote the game in America (attendance is down this season), nor provide a decent living for the best young players....so draft obrien white. if he is as good as the hype, he will leave in two years to sit on the bench for some crap league championship team.

Why is everyone here so anti Football league... the quality is pretty good, throughout the divisions. But yeah I agree with everything else you said smerge. It all goes back to the salary cap.

As at today, TFC has picks 2, 4, 13, 19, 34, 39 in the SuperDraft portion.

What's clear is there is no Mo Edu like player where consensus rules.

The Srs named in pre-season are still the players being discussed as 1st rounders in-and-around the Gen A list. So it's going to be based on how well TFC scouted the NCAA and where TFC's needs are and which holes are best filled by products from the NCAA.

So, IMHO, things don't look so good!

    Pick 2 & 4 if retained = Gen A players.
Pick 13 = Best player available.
Pick 19 = Brad Ring, a Midfielder from Indiana
    Picks 34 & 39 = ACC player(s)

    Supplementary Draft
Daniel Revivo, a Canadian, should still be available but will be selected
    Any remaining ACC.

I'm hoping Mo trades and packages most of the picks for allocation money, rights to out-of-contract players, and or established MLS players. We need depth. AND Mo and Carver don't have much time to produce, so unproven kids from the NCAA are not going to enhance their longevity with MLSE.

Not surprising, but for the uneducated in Tee-Ohhhh ....

The ACC tournament ended today. Every MLS team was well represented in Cary this weekend. That includes TFC!!!
    Maryland beat UVa, 1-0.

Worst kept secret is Jeremy Hall (MD) and Ron Bouemboue (NC) all but confirming Gen A intentions once NCAA season is complete, so say December 6th at the earliest.

I like Hall (1988), but I really like Bouemboue (1987); both are Jrs.

Can anyone tell me a comprehensive (if not authoritative) source for MLS rules and up to date technical standings?
The MLSnet website appears not to give all the details.
the Regulation section for instance mentions salary budget but doesn't say what the allowance is.
Similary the Allocation section appears to be out of date.

Consequently I have no idea of how to view the Superdraft and other league arrangements.

    Thanks in advance.

What about if we deal our 4 and 13 for #1 to seattle then we have #1 and 2 and seattle gets two picks. Would you guys take this if seattle offered?

  15. I would try to hunt the Collective Bargaining Agreement between the league and the MLS players union. I think it is online somewhere.

I hope Mo can draft a bit better next year as compared to this year. When you look at who we drafted the player with the most impact was Edwards who was 2nd or 3rd round. James who many were going on about when he dropped and was a player who we should thank luck for realy hasn't been all too impressive this season and Phelan was traded way before he could make a apperance for the 1st team.

I think in the end we will end up trading one of the top picks for a player (Maybe a good CB or wide attacking player).

  17. No argument on James but Phelan appeared to do quite well with the Revs and was mentioned a lot as an obvious pick for the Sounders yesterday. Didn't appear to be John Carver's type of player unlike Marco Velez. The additional international roster spot acquired for him will be useful this season and next so he wasn't a complete write off. The 2008 group of potential draftees are said to be better than the last lot, who collectively haven't made much of an impact so far.

O'B White has blown out his knee and will be out for 6 months. With the new MLS roster changes and him having a less than stellar season before the injury he should slide well past the 1st round.

Dobson: Bad news for TFC: HERE IS THE LINK.

Although it happened several weeks ago, it has been kept quiet until now.

O'Brian White is a Scarborough native and last year's MAC Hermann award winner as the top collegiate soccer player in the United States. But there is startling news that he tore his ACL in a recent game and had surgery last week. He'll be out of action for an estimated six months.

Once recovered, there is little chance White's agent will recommend he plays on the turf at BMO. Surgically corrected ACLs and turf, do not go well together, so you can kiss this player goodbye.

With all this tal about draft is/was there any news on the possibility of signing a player through the Academy?

Or was there not a player good enough from the u-18 squad to sign :(

  22. At least one player (might even be two either now or eventually can't be bothered checking :) ) from TFC's Academy system can be signed every season without going through the draft process. Early days on that.
