    FC Dallas signed Heath Pearce

FC DALLAS SIGNS HEATH PEARCE VIA ALLOCATION

FRISCO, Texas (Friday, Sept. 11, 2009) - FC Dallas General Manager Michael Hitchcock announced today that the team has signed U.S. National Team defender Heath Pearce via its #1 allocation ranking. Pearce will be added to the senior roster upon receipt of his International Transfer Certificate (ITC). To make room for Pearce on the 24-man roster, FC Dallas waived defender Steve Purdy.

"Heath is a high quality player who can play a lot of different positions, and we are very excited to welcome him to the club," FC Dallas Head Coach Schellas Hyndman said. "We are really focusing on making our team stronger defensively, and Heath is a hard worker who can help us in that regard."

Pearce began his professional career in 2005 with FC Nordsjælland of the Danish Superliga. In his second season with FC Nordsjælland, Pearce helped the club to a fifth place finish, its highest position since being promoted in 2003. In 2007, Pearce signed with Hansa Rostock of the Bundesliga where he appeared in 31 games.

The 25-year-old Pearce has been a main stay on the U. S. National Team since 2005 earning 28 caps and recording one assist. Pearce's seven appearances in FIFA World Cup Qualifiers were the most of any U.S. player in 2008.

Pearce attended the University of Portland where he was an All-West Coast Conference honorable mention selection. He also is an alumnus of the U.S. Soccer Residency Program in Bradenton, Fla. where he played for current FC Dallas assistant coach John Ellinger.

It was also announced today that the club and forward/midfielder Alvaro "Tom" Sanchez have mutually agreed to end his contract with FC Dallas. Sanchez was signed by FC Dallas on April 3 and appeared in three games this season.

I've seen it mentioned that Steve Purdy was cut as well, but can't find confirmation.

FC DALLAS SIGNS JUNIORS MIDFIELDER BRYAN LEYVA

Youth Development System Yields First Professional Player

FRISCO, Texas (Wednesday, Sept. 16, 2009) - FC Dallas General Manager Michael Hitchcock today announced that Bryan Leyva of the FC Dallas Juniors Program has been signed to its professional team. The signing makes Leyva the first player in FC Dallas history to earn a professional contract through the club's youth development system.

"We're very excited to sign our first FC Dallas Juniors player, Bryan Leyva, to the professional team. This is a landmark announcement for our club." FC Dallas General Manager Michael Hitchcock said. "Similar to great clubs around the world, the future of FC Dallas is developing the best and the brightest youth soccer players in North Texas into world class professionals, and this is the first step toward that end."

Born in Chihuahua, Mexico, Leyva joined the FC Dallas Youth Development System in June of 2008 as a member of the Under-16 Juniors Team. Leyva helped lead the team to a second place finish in this year's MLS/SUM U-17 Cup.

"Signing with FC Dallas is a dream come true," FC Dallas new signing Bryan Leyva said. "The Juniors program has helped me in my development as a soccer player, and I want to thank my teammates for their support in getting me to this point. This is a very exciting day for me and my family, and I look forward to working with the first team in the future."

Earlier this year, Leyva and the U-16 Juniors participated in the prestigious Dr Pepper Dallas Cup, a tournament featuring the top youth professional and amateur teams from around the world. This past summer, the 17-year-old midfielder was named to the U.S. Soccer Development Academy Central Conference Best XI and was a key player for the team last season scoring 13 goals.

Leyva came to the United States in 2000 and is a U.S. resident. Leyva is currently with the U-17 Mexican National Team preparing for the FIFA U-17 World Cup in Nigeria later this year. The midfielder also had training stints with Lille OSC in France and Racing Santander in Spain.

Leyva will join the FC Dallas professional team upon his return from the U-17 Mexican National Team camp next week. FC Dallas will formally introduce Leyva at a media event later this month.
In July 2009, the MLS Board of Governors approved an amendment to the rules governing the signing of youth academy players. MLS clubs will receive two additional roster slots that may be used to sign academy players, in accordance with current Home Grown Player rules, to Generation adidas or Developmental contracts during the 2009 season. Home Grown players will not count toward the 24-player roster limit in 2009. These players may not play in league games during the 2009 season, but can participate in training, exhibition games and CONCACAF Champions League games. Home Grown players will count toward a team's roster upon the commencement of the 2010 season. The Generation adidas contract provides college tuition reimbursement for a player.

    Name: Bryan Leyva
    Position: Midfielder
    Number: TBD
    Height: 5'6"
    Weight: 140
    DOB: February 9, 1992
    Birthplace: Chihuahua, Mexico
    Hometown: Irving, TX
    Last Club: FC Dallas Juniors
    Nationality: Mexico
    Status: Generation adidas

There isn't a deadline. There's a 'MLS deadline'. Two entirely different things.

Well no one seemed to mention that FCD put Anthony Wallace on season ending IR and re-acquired recently released Steve Purdy. Have not seen anything official but both Buzz (3rddegree.net) and Goff (Soccer Insider) have reported the move.

Now the thread is done (ok, this is MLS. It might be done in a few weeks).

Aside from hardship cases, yes, this should be done. The moves that got announced yesterday were likely filed before the deadline, unless there's some sort of exemption on Academy signings that we don't know about.

Not an official transaction, but Darren Huckerby informally announced his retirement after his season-ending hip surgery last weekend.

    Or not.

Crew sign former keeper Kenny Schoeni to the roster spot vacated by Nyazamba being waived earlier.

Crew backup keeper Andy Gruenebaum will have season ending hip surgery, Schoeni will back-up Will Hesmer.

I think we've left this open through the end of the season in years past.

Oh -- and I really need to update this again. Sorry I've been so remiss in my duties.

It's never too late to add a player (at least according to MLS).

Portland's Steve Cronin on loan to DC United for the rest of the season.

I'm guessing it was some sort of "hardship" clause.

No changes may be made to a team's active full roster during the period beginning on September 16, 2009 (day after Roster Freeze Date) through the day after MLS Cup. Nevertheless, a team may obtain players in accordance with the extreme hardship rules and procedures to replace players who are injured or otherwise legitimately unavailable after the Roster Freeze Date. Any other replacements after the Roster Freeze Date may only be made in exceptional circumstances in the League's sole and absolute discretion.

Must be the latter. The "extreme hardship" rules apply if teams have less than two GKs or less than 15 players. United technically has two available goalkeepers, though one (Bill Hamid) is a recent Academy signing.

Except Hamid is not eligible for any actual MLS games. He can play in CCL games, but, officially, he can't play in MLS until next year.
