It's great to be able to spend Sat night watching multiple MLS games.

MLS Goal of the Year in Week 1? I don't want to spoil it, but you may want to check out highlights of the Dallas/Chicago match. Reminds me of a goal that I witnessed at RES in 2007.

    Yeah, this is fun.

And the 800k on Matchtracker is SOOOOOOO much nicer. I can actually follow the ball now, instead trying to figure out which blog of pixels is moving the fastest.

(I had started to analyze each of the games, but then then saw the absent (R). The unforgivable sin has been avoided)

LA signed USNats veteran Gregg Berhalter. How were they able to do this? It just seems like another case of helping LA get whoever they want so they can finally succeed...

Most likely it was Berhalter who said he would only come back to MLS if he could play for LA. That's one of the disadvantages of the single-entity system: Any player the league feels is a must-get has the power to strong-arm the league regarding where he wants to play.

But honestly, does this signing really improve LA? He will be 36 this year.

Sweet....an off-the-field incident involving a high-profile MLS player! If MLS is ever going to achieve the same status in America as the NBA or NFL, it's important to make strides in the police blotter department.

I find this story kind of unbelievable. Why would he stalk a women, when he could probably have any number of women right now in Seattle for free.

Besides, why doesn't she just confront him. He might just fall down clutching his face.

Maybe he has a history of problems and thats why Seattle was able to get him for so cheap.

I also hate that people assume somebody is innocent just because they are a professional athlete so they would never do anything like that (Mike Tyson, Kobe Bryant, etc. etc. etc.)

Re: 2009 Discussion: Around the League

This is the wrong way to look at these type of people. I'm not talking specifically about Montero's situation, too many unknowns.

But, the type of people that rape rarely do it because they can't get someone to have sex with them. It is a perversion which they are attempting to appease. A matter of control, ego, etc.

So, it isn't a matter of unbelievable because he can already get women.

None of us know enough about this to know what, if any, of this situation is true. There are not even formal charges, yet.

Innocent until proven guilty is the way we should treat all persons, athlete or not.

Even then, there is a reason we have a judicial system and trials, to ensure the case by the prosecution is sufficient to prove the person's guilt beyond reasonable doubt.

It is best to allow that system to run its course, rather than us convicting in this forum wherein we know no facts, have seen no evidence, and can observe no witnesses... IOW, we know nothing.

    Freddy Montero Accusations Thread

I don't know if anybody else has heard of this or not... Freddy Montero has been accused of 2 counts of rape and sexual assault (I don't know the whole story). He did not fly out with the team to play TFC, the team said he "had the flu", but reports have come out on what might be actually happening...

    http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/sports/2008982337_montero04.html

IF this is true, this is very devastating not only to SSFC but to the league. As much as RSL fans might have harbored feelings against him, he is a quality striker and has caught the attention of many.

    Thoughts???

    Re: Freddy Montero Accusations Thread

Let's keep this together with the other MLS news thread. If it blows up and takes over we'll move it back to a seperate thread.

Personally, I have no idea if he is guilty or not. For him and the accuser, its a obviously a serious issue. I think that as MLS fans, our big issue is what this does to the superstar status the Sounders are enjoying and what this means today when Seattle plays their first away game without their star forward. And in Toronto of all places. Talk about a anti-Seattle crowd. No green-love there.

    Must spread some rep...

Conversation over. This is BS to place him under the bus or to contrive a case for or against him. Leave this situation alone until there is actually some facts to this story. There is not even a case that has been filed, only a report.

I certainly hope so. I'd love Toronto to be really bad on the road, too.

I noticed the CRapids are minus the "Rapids" on their uniforms. They need to put, "DICKS" on them and be done with it.

I thought so too but there was a player on the other side of the field keeping him on.
Sorry scratch that I was thinking of his thirds goal.....the second is questionable but can't say for sure if he was off or not.
