Re: 2009-2010 Concacaf Champions League Then why do they have stadiums in Africa that host the national team? Jesus, I didn't expect to get bashed for a single offhand comment
Re: 2009-2010 Concacaf Champions League The problem REALLY isn't Belize. The problem is that CONCACAF decided that all matches were to be at night. If they allowed matches during the day, perhaps Marion Jones Complex qualifies. Perhaps not, because I believe terracing was against the rules, but then plenty of CONCACAF stadiums would not meet the criteria.
Re: 2009-2010 Concacaf Champions League All African nations are footballing nations, meaning that football (soccer) is the #1 sport. Many CONCACAF nations are not. Granted Belize is a footballing nation, but keep in mind... it is a SMALL footballing nation (320,000 people, about half the population of the least populated state in the U.S.). Here are the national stadiums for the following similarly sized African nations... Sao Tome and Principe (200,000) - No picture, seats 6,500 Western Sahara (380,000) - No Stadium Djibouti (500,000) - 10,000 capacity... w/ lights! Cape Verde (420,000) - Capacity 8,000. Looks like the spitting image of the stadium in Belize in a nation of 100,000 more people. Equatorial Guinea (550,000) - 15,000 capcity. Must admit, pretty nice.
Re: 2009-2010 Concacaf Champions League couldn't concacaf help belize, nicaragua and the caribean countries that don't hav e adequate facilities get up to standard. Even just getting one stadium to have changerooms and lights would let them participate in so much more. Didn't Trinidad and Tobago get a whole bunch of money from fifas 'goal' program?
Re: 2009-2010 Concacaf Champions League There are two problems. 1. The CONCACAF president. Just read up on the guy. 2. There are a lot of countries in CONCACAF with inadequate facilities. I think their priorities are with the nations that are trying to do it themselves... oh and read up on Jack Warner. Not the most trustworthy guy. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Austin_"Jack"_Warner
Re: 2009-2010 Concacaf Champions League It's not as simple as that. You can't just put lights up and solve the problem. There are issues of the power/electrical infrastructure, cost of maintenance, security, etc.
Re: 2009-2010 Concacaf Champions League Belize misses big chance for home game! All I know is that a few years they better have a stadium.
Re: 2009-2010 Concacaf Champions League Now you see why I find it pathetic? If countries are pissing away money (or their federation directions are embezelling it), there's no excuse to not have at least one stadium. I'm not expecting a SSS in every major city. Having one stadium up to standards isn't too much to ask. Supposedly Nicaragua is building a stadium, but the link to the FIFA story seems to go nowhere.
Re: 2009-2010 Concacaf Champions League Does anybody know if Real Esteli has Nicaragua's CCL spot for this year locked up?
Re: 2009-2010 Concacaf Champions League Nicaragua is the one league I have not found a way to follow.
Re: 2009-2010 Concacaf Champions League The Puerto Rico Islanders and the W. Connection of Trinidad qualified yesterday to the CCL 2009-10. Tomorrow they will play to define the Caribbean crown. San Juan Jabloteh (Trinidad) and Tempete FC (Haiti) will play tomorrow for the 3rd Caribbean spot in the CCL.
Re: 2009-2010 Concacaf Champions League Just for a little variety I'd love to see Tempete win that 3rd spot. Trindad w/ two clubs doesn't thrill. Tempete could play here... As i don't believe their home ground meets CONCACAF requirements...
Re: 2009-2010 Concacaf Champions League Tempete lost yesterday. San Juan Jabloteh got the final Caribbean spot.
Re: 2009-2010 Concacaf Champions League That's a shame. A variety of clubs from the Caribbean would've been nice.
Re: 2009-2010 Concacaf Champions League Too bad the Jamaican clubs decided not to give it a go this year. I think the T&T and Jamaican clubs are the strongest in the Caribbean along with Puerto Rico Islanders of the USL.
Re: 2009-2010 Concacaf Champions League The CONCACAF website says they do but they might not be allowed to play in the CCL.
Re: 2009-2010 Concacaf Champions League the other two spots for mexico will either be Pachuca/Indios or Puebla/UNAM's youth team
Re: 2009-2010 Concacaf Champions League shoot, I hope the stadium is deemed unfit, so we (panama) can get a 3rd team in.. don't want to wish no bad luck on others, but.. lol
Re: 2009-2010 Concacaf Champions League Fairly so - honestly, there is no way anyone else in Central America deserves a 3rd team before them. But...if you don't mind the mental exercise, if I had to justify it, besides said league-rankings, the best way to go about it would be to say that the results from the last tournament were the only ones taken into consideration when deciding who was in line for the extra spot. Thus...the fact that Olimpia and Marathón (especially the latter for being the best team in the group stages and for being the only CA team to get to the quarterfinals) got more points combined than Saprissa put Honduras first in line for an extra spot. And then: Tauro and San Fransicso combined got as many points as Saprissa in the group stages, but Panama gets the nod ahead of Costa Rica because both of them qualified for the group stages, whereas la Liga (Alajuelense) didn't. At least, then, if someone else manages to fail a stadium inspection, Costa Rica would be ahead of Guatemala and El Salvador. In closing: it's all La Liga's fault.
