Just checking in. As you'll recall the 2007 pre-season match when Seattle traveled to KC has a second leg supposedly happening in Seattle this year. Any news on that? Perhaps after Thursday we'll know more? Seattle's 2008 league fixture list: http://www.uslsoccer.com/teams/2008/22379.html
IIRC, the wizards were the only team that didn't play on opening weekend last year and thus played seattle in an exhibition to warm-up for the season. and i don't remember ever seeing an agreement to play again in 2008. you might have to wait until the open cup to get us.
The match is part of an ongoing effort by the Sounders to build relationships with Major League Soccer and work to bring high level professional teams to Seattle. As part of the deal, the Wizards will come to Seattle at a future date for an exhibition against the Sounders. http://www.seattlesounders.net/pressbox.php?section=news&ID=561 I knew I read it somewhere.
Question becomes, how (if at all) has the fact that Seattle will be in MLS next year changed this plan?
At a future date does not necessarily = 2008. The team is training in Argentina until March 14th, so that doesn't leave a lot of time for a trip to Seattle this season.
The USL "Sounders" are folding after this season, so it is this year, or never. The new MLS club will play you guys enough as it is.
The Sounders will play their opener at Qwest Field and then the rest of their league matches at 'Starfire' 12 miles south of Seattle. That venue holds 2k with room for twice that in standing areas. Maybe this match won't come to pass. I am not sure it is worth it for the Sounders to schedule KC at Qwest. They might play at Starfire just to see how the new talent they are bringing in compares with MLS. In that case, I'd look for open dates around a KC visit to San Jose.
