From what I saw, LDU was already weakened at this year Sudamericana :(

Boca beat them 4-0 at home and then drew 1-1 away with some reserves and mainly youths

I haven't seen Al Ahly play but Liga looked awful in international competition this year. Should be an accessible road to the final for my Pachuca. :)

and just like Boca beat Pachuca...oh wait, you guys lost against the African team, and now that the African team is Al Ahly, I wouldn't be surprised if it's another one and out by Pachuca

I doubt it, we learned our lesson from last year and I'm confident we'll defeat Al Ahly. :)

With under two weeks to go I've moved some posts to the Ahly-Pachuca match thread.

Elsewhere the AFC has finally assigned all the spots for the re-launch of the AFC Champions League next year:

I very much doubt that Milan could do that again though. The youth and pace of Boca would show up the Milan retirement home big time. Too many old players are destroying what was once a great team.
Milan are very lucky not to find themselves in the UEFA Champions League this season, this because a team like Chelsea, Liverpool and Barcelona would easily defeat them by at least 3 goals. In a preseason friendly this season Chelsea already crushed them 4 - 0.

Looks like the quality of the OFC team won't increase in the near future...

-- Wellington Phoenix say no to O-League (New Zealand Herald) --
Leaving the very complicated situation of Wellington Phoenix aside, this now means that the OFC won't field a competitive team next year either. For those who don't know, Sepp Blatter said last year (2007) that the OFC has two years to show it belongs. Otherwise the CWC spot might be taken away by FIFA.

Well thats shocking in my opinion. In order to determine a true World Champion every Continent needs to have their say and have a Club participating. It's time that the old senile joke known as Sepp Blatter retired from his position at FIFA, this if he is going to come up with such harsh crap as this.

I find it both incredible and alarming that FIFA continues to demean the OFC. The problem is there for all to see, and needs to be addressed immediately. Oceania cannot stand on it's own as a confederation. I believe it should be integrated into the AFC. Certainly, there would be practical and logistical obstacles to overcome, but surely this is the most viable solution.

Back on topic, I think this year could very well witness the first non-European/South American finalist. I think Pachuca/Ahly have every chance of overcoming LDU; it will be fascinating to see how this side of the draw develops.

Agreed. This can not happen soon enough. I believe all it would take at this point is for New Zealand Football to state that they wan't to follow Australia to the AFC.
Yep, the LDU Quito side of the bracket looks to be the interesting one.

I've always thought that combining the OFC with the ASEAN Football Federation, and then giving that new Confederation a direct entry to the World Cup, would be a good idea. Soccer needs to grow more in that highly populated region of the world.

In any case, the OFC is currently a major problem that needs to be addressed by FIFA. Combining it with the AFC would be the most likely solution.

It's a shame that South American teams are not capable of keeping their great players for long periods of time. LDU as it was during its Libertadores win would have been a great team to see in this tournament, especially since Joffre Guerron was still with them. That man is insanely fast.

The good thing about South American Clubs though is that in more cases than not whenever they lose one player to a wealthier European Club they just end up replacing that player with a better developing player. The South American's for definate have the best youth development in Club Football. I would say Boca Juniors has the best in the World.

I've been thinking of this ever since the idea of Australia joining Asia became known. It's clear that Oceania is the weakest confederation - weaker still since Australia left. The only other noteworthy country left is New Zealand, and even then they're liable to fall to a Pacific-based minnow team. It's about time FIFA considered meshing in the two confederations once and for all, for the good of the footballing community in the Oceanic region, more than anything.

ManU have announced their squad and everybody (minus the injured Owen Hargreaves) is available for the CWC. Their last match before traveling to Japan is on the 13th against Tottenham. ManU's first CWC match is on the 18th of December:

Sorry but if you lose a 20 year-old player to, say, Villarreal and replace him with a 16-year old from your developmental squad, that tends to make your team weaker.

SAF is talking out of his arse. The quality is getting worse in the rest-of-the-world, as rich European clubs lure foreigners from their homeland at younger ages than ever.
