Canada has submitted its bid to host the next WWC. France is expected to make a bid as well. Does anyone know who else is bidding? FIFA will decide in March 2004.
i heard rumblings of australia putting a bid in...although i haven't heard that in a looong while. elaine
If Canada should get the bid, would they push the date up in the year as opposed to the '03 WWC? I'm no expert on Canadian meteorology, but late September to mid-October seems like it could be courting some unpleasant weather.
Re: Re: 2007 World Cup i would assume it'll be held in june/july like it was in 1999 in the states. elaine
Molson Stadium in Montreal There are only six FIFA-approved fields with artificial turf in North America, including Frank Clair Stadium in Ottawa. The Canadian Soccer Association and Sport Canada have sent letters to McGill University supporting its wish to keep the Molson Stadium field blank. The CSA sees the stadium as a venue for World Cup qualifying matches and other events. On Wednesday, the CSA submitted its bid for Canada to play host to the 2007 women's World Cup. It needs venues beside the grass field at Commonwealth Stadium in Edmonton and would like one to be Molson Stadium. "But if gridiron football lines are manufactured into the pitch, we can't begin to seek certification," said CSA chief operating officer Kevan Pipe. http://www.sportsline.com/soccer/story/6295906 Someone correct me if I'm wrong but I swear I posted a link to an article last year saying that if our neighbors to the north were to bid on the 2007 WWC, that the US would not submit a bid. Or am I thinking of something else.
Re: Re: 2007 World Cup from what i remember last summer, the US wanted to submitt a bid, but retracted later, and "backed" the canadian bid etc. elaine
It'd be great if germany would bid aswell, but the WWC of the men will be hosted in germany 2006. So I don't think germany will do it.
