Yeah, but one more goal and we'd be solidly in the middle of the wildcard pack. All this talk of a "late push to just miss the playoffs" would require us to play a lot worse between now and the push. Regardless, we aren't doing well enough right now. And the weird schedule this season makes it hard to tell exactly how strong the various teams are. LA's two games in hand are a little worrying. We need to start knocking in some goals, and we'll be just fine - as long as we don't wait too long to start scoring.
Yeah, this is actually slightly encouraging for me as a Crew fan. We haven't played like shite (well, except the KC game), but we've also played no where near our best. Yet we're still well within the hunt. At this point, everyone is still in it I guess, but my point is, it's not like we've lost touch with the rest of the league, and there's no way KC and New England keep this pace up. We're on our way to playing our best football in years, and hopefully, we'll see the results once the boys get used to playing with Schelotto and Alejandro.
Our defense is going to keep in games, which is a huge improvement over the last couple of years. Too early for for "The Sky Is Falling!" crowd. Get back in the Kool-Aid line.
There's only two teams ahead of us in GA. That's just downright encouraging, if'n ya ask me. 'course, you didn't.
I'm inclined to agree with you. I think Red Bull and Houston (!!) might be the real teams to watch going forward. Houston is also struggling to score goals, but they've done reasonably well considering. If they can sort that goal scoring issue out, I think they'll be tough. If they win their games-in-hand, they'll jump to first in the West over a less-than-impressive Colorado and Dallas. We can be tough too, if we can start scoring goals regularly.
Hey, I said I hoped I was wrong. It's just the pessimist in me that keeps seeing similarities to past seasons. Also, it's not like baseball or other sports, where there is a gazillion games that dilute the importance of individual games. On the upside, Sigi certainly recognizes the problem and has been actively trying to remedy the goal drought. And I certainly do think think the soccer has been more attractive. And the defense will keep us in the game. But if we don't score, that keeps the other team in the game.
Noticed that I missed the midweek LA-NY Open Cup match in the rankings. I've added it to my DB, but I'm not going to take the time to regenerate the rankings (unless there is demand for it). It does, however, have some implications. LA won in OT 3-1, and suddenly LA looks a lot better than before, and NY worse (in fact, LA is 2nd or 3rd now in most of the rankings!). I also figured out a form table, which I'll add next week (league games only, most recent game on the right): Form: Los Angeles Galaxy: DLWL Kansas City Wizards: LWWWL Chicago Fire: DWWLL DC United: LLLDW Red Bull New York: WWWDL New England Revolution: DWDWW Houston Dynamo: DWLLW Real Salt Lake: DLLDD Chivas USA: LWLLD Colorado Rapids: LWLDW FC Dallas: LWLLW Toronto FC: LLLLW Columbus Crew: DDWLD
