Rank the top 3 defenders she has ever played against?

Isn't there a transfer rule regarding JUCOs--once you start at one you need to finish the 2 years--seems to me I remember this being an issue before.
Maybe it's an old rule, hwever you would think she would choose to transfer if she could.

    #3 recruiting class for 2007

Soccerbuzz has posted a ranking of the 2007 recruiting classes that puts UNC third behind UCLA and FSU. Nice story.

"Carolina Girls" had a great night last night with the Women's National Team!

Cat took the long restart kicks and most of the throw-ins, and was great at both. Two of the goals came as a direct result of her excellent long serves into the box -- the first on the take-down of Lloyd at the 6-yard line that resulted in the penalty kick and the second to the same spot that Tarp then passed back to Chulupny for her chip over the goalie.

Tarp played extremely well and extremely smart up front for the first 60 minutes. She got the second goal on a volley from a great serve by Mitts. She alos contributed to the 3rd goal -- by Lilly -- by her run to the top of the 6 yard box that drew two defenders and left Lil unmarked for an easy put-in.

Lil had her usual strong game and hit the 3rd goal. She also made beautiful serve to the box that Wombach was able to head in.

Chalupny was great in the midfield. She was clearly the play maker there and played a very mature game from that position, moving the ball around, starting runs up the middle, etc. Plus a really nice goal. She started there and was replaced by Wagner late, but she looked miles ahead of Wagner in that position.

Heather came on at the 60minute mark, replacing Tarp, and did her usual good job of pressuring the back line. Her goal was also outstanding. Wagner managed to toe a ball to her at the top of the box on the right side, Heather spun and instantly drilled a blast across the goal into the far side netting. She also had a great serve across the box that wasn't converted.

So, 4 goals by former UNC players, dominating play at 4 positions, and great assists. Couldn't ask for more!

The first article is a well written piece describing the 1-0 UNC win. Includes photos also. Sounds like it would have been a great one to watch between the Heels and the New Zealand Women's National team. Keep in mind Gayle, Maxwell, and Ariel Harris did not play. Don't think they made the trip.

    UNC v. NZ

Thanks guys....both those stories were quite detailed, especially the second. I wish US media would do that good a job! Nice photos too. Good way to kick off post-Memorial Day blues. I found it encouraging to see Betsy Frederick in action in the center of the Defense. I think this might have been her first playing time I can remember. And Ashlyn Harris--let's hope she can avoid injury this year b/c she sounds like she's healthy and ready to impress. No mention of Tobin, but Melissa Hayes sounds like she's getting some notice here. Excited to see what happens when the new frosh arrive!

On a side note, Parade released it's 2007 All-America list on Sunday. 2008 Heels Rachel Wood and Merritt Mathias made the list. I was wondering if the Heels have a shot at recruiting Teresa Noyola, player of the year and a Junior from Palo Alto. Anyone got any scoop?

that's great news, kendall is gonna be an amazing coach. and of course kacey white is one of my favorite people ever. now let's just hope they get on the full team

(also: hahaha, i love that the new zealand article speculated on whether anyone calls sterling "silver". i don't think i've ever heard anyone do so, though...)

Forgot to mention - at the bottom of the article, there is a link to a photographer. Follow it to his webpage, and click on the New Zealand game vs UNC. There are MANY photos of the game. The file will be labeled 300 (as in 300 photos maybe?)

Was sorry to hear about Ali Hawkins tearing both ACL and MCLs in U-21 action. She was a major force in the midfield last season. Also too bad about Melissa Hayes, but hopefully she will be happier at Penn State!

Interesting article on call-ups for training prior to Pan-Am Games; here's the roster with several UNC faces, including Givan and Klingenberg:

    U.S. Under-20 Women’s National Team Roster – Boyds, Maryland
    June 9-16, 2007
Goalkeepers (3): Chantel Jones (Virginia), Alyssa Naeher (Penn State), Kristin Olsen (USC)
Defenders (4): Meghan Klingenberg (Hot Spurs), Nikki Marshall (Colorado), Brittany Taylor (UConn), Lauren Wilmoth (UCLA)
Midfielders (7): Becky Edwards (Florida State), Kaley Fountain (Wake Forest), Tobin Heath (UNC), Teresa Noyola (MVLA Mercury), Amanda Poach (Santa Clara), Nikki Washington (UNC), Kylie Wright (So Cal Blues)
Forwards (10): Lauren Cheney (UCLA), Gina DiMartino (Boston College), Michelle Enyeart (Portland), Rachel Givan (Mississippi United), Melissa Henderson (Dallas Texans), Alicia Jenkins (Stanford), Jessica McDonald (Phoenix College), Casey Nogueira (UNC), Kelley O’Hara (Stanford), Michele Weissenhofer (Notre Dame)

    * - I noticed Jessica McDonald is on there as well after her first season playing at Phoenix College

I just read about losing Ali Hawkins (76). That rips a sizable hole in my perception of next years starting line-up but I'll readjust my mind-set and move on along. Hope they don't all die in the oppressive heat this summer.... it's already brutal....
