Sadly Beckham came after the Galaxy got eliminated against Harrisburg. But that's for a 2008 final to see if it happens.
That's great, Carolina! Your first season is proving to be a real success! I also just saw on usopencup.com that the Harrisburg/Revs game got moved from Western Mass Pioneers stadium to the patriots stadium in Foxboro. 2 things about that: - I think there would be more local interest in a little town like that hosting an MLS team than a (likely to be) underpromoted game at the Disposable Razor, so it's too bad for those folks. -The Revs are clearly nervous and want homefield advantage! USL-2 represent!
I think the Revs see the importance in this game. If they lose a USL 2 squad will be in the finals. Richmond is a great team this year and they will probably end up in the finals if the revs lose or even if the revs make it that far.
If your sources are off the record, why the hell are you posting it here ??? MLS is not some big entity that can afford to throw away a competition such as the USOC. They should and will win the majority of the games, but the contests, the occasional upsets and scouting of the lower league players is what will build the stability of American soccer. Stick to facts or stick out your neck ...
I agree, and I love the "minor leagues" as they are referred to in an Americanized fashion. These men and women play for the love of the game and that's what it is all about. I would pounce on any opportunity in the PDL, USL-1, USL-2, MISL, w.e - it's great stuff. Anyhow, that is my rant - but here is something similar that I found to be a great read (and has similar thoughts): http://www.soccer-training-info.com/us_open_cup_cinderella_stories.asp
That dude must be allergic to proofreading. "The" instead of "they" reeks of relying on spellcheck. Heh, "lassie fair". Brilliant! And before you say anything, I'm posting on an internet message board, not writing a journalistic article.
Anyone wanna put a few duckets on "The Mouse" finagling a way of showing the OC Final if Becks and LA get to one?
If that happens, then let ESPN pay for a couple of US Open Cup Matches in the later rounds thru the final. Got to promote this damned thing to the hilt.
Hell, I don't care if ESPN gets them for free. That'd be the best exposure the Cup has had... EVER! But it's a year off, so let's see how the Beck's phenomenon plays out the rest of this year. It may be old news by then.
Never underestimate the power of Hollywood Media Hype. This phenomenon will rear its head intermittently for the next 5 years. Don't fret.
the USOC site is pants...The in page streaming does no good for someone using linux, since there is no plugin available. If they would just have a link to the wmv file I could stream it in VLC, like I do with the MLS streams. If anyone has discovered the url of the stream(s), please post.
USOC Quarterfinals: Carolina RailHawks (USL-1) 1-0 Richmond Kickers (USL-2) Charleston Battery (USL-1) 1-2 a.e.t. Dallas (MLS) Seattle Sounders (USL-1) v Colorado Rapids - starting now New England Revolution (MLS) v Harrisburg City Islanders (USL-2) - Wed. 7:30 ET
Big Elvis Costello fan FCD/CHAR was a decent game, but I was watching the Carolina game more. I'd love to see the RailHawks make a run to the final.... I gotta go to bed, so I'm gonna have to watch the archive on usl live in the morning.
Didn't notice you until now ... http://usl.playonsports.tv/free/video/meta/1791/1791.asx?eventId=1791&d=1281148529|n^wbkQdXnUr3RQ5rvg I always have to find ways to watch web video also (Slackware here). If you're using Firefox, when it asks for a plugin in an embedded video window, right-click on the plugin symbol, then go to "view page info". Go to the media tab. There will be a list there and as you single-click on each item, there is a description of the particular file down below. Look for the one that's video ... in this case, application/x-mplayer2, implying a video file. An understanding of URL syntax and a little guesswork will tell you that the site is http://usl.playonsports.tv and that .../free/video... is the complete path. I then bring up a run command and enter "xine http://usl..." and I'm up and running every time, at least on this site.
