I've heard a rumor that MF Melissa Hayes is transfering from UNC to Santa Clara. Anybody else heard this?

I have heard that Santa Clara's Amanda Poach and Jordon Angeli have had knee injuries that will keep them from playing this season. Just wondering if this is true. If true, it is an absolutely terrible thing for both talented players and a huge loss for Santa Clara.
Hadn't heard that but noticed that Poach is not on the roster for the Pan Am games. She had been in camp with the U-20's I believe. Would be very surprised if she didn't make the roster healthly. That would be a huge loss.
It is true. Both have just recently had acl surgery and will be out for the season. So a huge loss for Santa Clara and the national teams.
Certainly has-although national duty on top of the rigors of D1 soccer might factor into the overuse element. No doubt the strength conditioning dept is paying close attention as considerable progress seems to have been made in techniques for injury prevention for female athletes.
Wow, that's terrible news for Santa Clara. Here's wishing to a speedy recovery for both Poach and Angeli. So who steps up in their absence? I forsee a big year for Lexi Orand and Kiki Bosio.
Look for Freshman Kendra Perry to get a lot of playing time early in the midfield. She has the ability to step up and help out. If Johnson recovers well from her ACL of last year the defense should be in great good shape, especially with the addition Goynes. That gives the Broncos two incredibly fast outside backs. Lewis and Potts will probably anchor the middle and Freshman Patton will come off the bench. With McCray in goal the defense looks solid - just thin. Injuries to any of this group and the Broncos will be in trouble. I expect Smith to move Igwe or another midfielder into a defensive role this year. The front line will also be solid: Bosio, Estrada, Snell, Orand, Reynolds and first years Bendarz and Baddley will provide a strong rotation up front. The midfield suffers the most with the loss of Poach. Klein is going to have to have another unbelievable season. I think Perry can step in and play well and I liked Reynolds in the midfield last year. Outside of this it will be a mix-match of fill-in players that plug holes. Maybe Orand makes a move to the midfield? Smith doesn't have depth this year - he is going to have to make do with 13-14 players and hope that the injury bug is over with.
Smith doesn't have depth this year?? Not according to Smith himself. He said next year's team will be one of the deepest Santa Clara teams that he has ever had. Maybe he was just kidding.
I think that was prior to losing two former u20 national teamers to injuries. The Spurs had great depth this year in basketball but they couldn't have survived injuries to Duncan and Parker
incoming freshman chelsea bednarz will also be a redshirt this coming fall as she had a foot surgery and is out for a year. I think Smith's quote regarding the season was before any of this happened...
Nice try. We know you hate Smith and SCU. You are quoting Smith right after he signed the incoming class back in the Winter. After all the injuries this Spring, he would never say something like this.
Smith said he had one of the deepest teams he has ever had. Then he has two injuries. And now he has no depth? Guess Smith's concept of depth wasn't so deep. Looks like Smith didn't do such a great job of recruiting and failed to take full advantage of SCU’s second-tier admission standards. Soccer Buzz thought he only had the third best class of recruits among California schools. This gives him another great opportunity to exit on the first round once again.
"Once again" - they have only exited in the first round...once, last year. You are obviously a parent that is mad because your daughter wanted to go to santa clara and wasn't recruited there or who knows what. an injury to amanda poach, the holding midfielder, is a huge loss...holding midfield is perhaps the most important spot in santa clara's system of play. Angeli is a huge loss and the loss of a to be freshman in chelsea bednarz. I would say 3 players who were projected to start now not being available means the team is not nearly as deep...and the season hasn't even started yet. 16 is a very deep team. 13 is not. Why do you even post on this thread?
Without the injuries to three key players this Bronco team is exceptionally deep. Once again, you prove your ignorance of the sport, of college soccer and of recruiting. The loss of three players of this level is akin to USC football of a couple of years ago losing Leinart, Bush and Williams in one season. In this case, the Trojans would have gone from a "deep" talent pool to a very thin one.
If Rocky had done his homework instead of spewing his stale old vitriol, he would have discovered that SCU has a sterling reputation for academics and the highest admission standards in the WCC. Something tells me he already knows how great a school it is, otherwise he wouldnt be quite so bitter-try to get over it Rocky-it just can't be healthy for you to be so full of bile for so long. Incidentally, the opposite of love is not hate but indifference....so you are obviously still very much emotionally engaged by Santa Clara. Understandable.
Do your research. Check out US News and World Report - you'll find that SCU is one of the highest rated Universities in the United States. All aspects of the school are annually ranked among the top of their classes.
Are SCU's admission standards toughter than Cal's? Or UCLA's? Or Stanford's? Your ignnorance and lack of intelligence is astounding. Anyway, to be fair to Jerry Smith, It had to be hard for the poor guy. He just came off the worst playoff performance of his career. Then, desperate to rebound, he needed to have some great recruiting success, having to inform high school senior standouts about the one national championship he won way back when they were starting the seventh grade. But even with the advantage of easier admissions, he still failed to out-recruit in-state rivals. But what did he do? When announcing his recruiting class, he exaggerated the depth of the team. And now he’s stuck in a mess, unable to back up his own words.

Your ignorance is amazing... SCU's incoming class is only surpassed by UCLA - an amazing feat for a private school vs. a public school. As for academic standards? Outside of Stanford, most academic experts rank SCU on par with or higher than both Cal and USC for overall education. US News does not compare SCU to these schools, however, as they are separated into different classifications. Your hatred obscures your logic
I think Rocky Colorado has an axe to grind. SCU is not in the same academic class as Cal and UCLA (USC is another matter). Private schools (outside of Stanford, the IVies, and a handful of others) have easier admissions standards in that they set their own. The publics are governed by standard admissions which can be quite restrictive. Then there is the matter of number of applicants, which limits who is admitted. The WCC schools do not come close to the number of applicants of a UC school or a state school (Like two so cal state schools have a crazy number of applicants vs admitted ratio, making them very hard to get into). To vilify Smith for something he said months ago in a recruiting press release is crazy. He has a great class that promised him depth. Now, he has some injuries....what should he have said..."these aregreat incoming recruits but we think a few of them might get injured, so we don't really think our team will be that great." ???? Get mad at him because he is arrogant or has a big ego or wears too much red...but to make comments about him based on a press release is lame and makes you look like you have a personal issue.
