Kind of a non-update, update here on the Sky TV fixtures... http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,12942,00.html Not sure what's taking Sky so long in their scheduling of Championship matches for the 2nd half of the season - but not much yet (aside from a few late Jan/Feb fixtures). I'm guessing that with the newfound media attention at HQ, we'll be on TV more than a couple times in the next few months. Hopefully Sky agree with me.
I'll stick this one on the media thread.... Now them come out with a double-disc 05/06 and 06/07 highlights DVD. I don't see how I can justify the 20 pounds shipping charge for a 25 pound item. If I'd have known last week, I'd have asked Ant to bring one back for me. And I wouldn't be surprised if the print run is rather small, so they likely won't be around when (if?) I make it over next season. Maybe I'll email one of my friends over there and ask 'em to buy it and mail it.
So (and I realize this is a stupid question, but...if the shoe fits...) is there any difference in format between UK and US DVD's? The reason I ask is, my fiancee is from the Philippines, and the DVD's her siblings send over are playable on her player, but not mine. I don't think that's the case with UK/US. And if it's not, atouk, I'd be willing to go in with you on another copy from one of your friends. It could (conceivably) save on postage costs. (Plus if you're in contact with lanky134 at all, I'll be seeing him here in March. I'll buy him a beer if he packs it in his suitcase.) That's just "glass is half empty" thinking, sir! I object! Dang, I'm thirsty...
With US vs. UK DVDs, there is the question of NTSC (US) vs. PAL (UK) and whether the discs are encoded with Region 1 (US) or Region 2 (UK). On our new DVD player, we just had to press a few buttons to make it region-free (see various DVD hack websites -- you can search for the model of your DVD player), so it now plays stuff whatever the region and has no problem playing PAL. I believe the QPR DVDs are usually "Region 0" so that your DVD player (encoded with any region) will play it if it can play PAL. My old DVD player wouldn't play things that were Region 2, but even the QPR DVDs (Region 0) wouldn't play, so I guess it couldn't play PAL, either.
Not to confuse things even further, but haven't the DVD regions been done away with? Or are there plans in place to do away with regions?
http://www.qpr.premiumtv.co.uk/page/NewsDetail/0,,10373~1224047,00.html Our home fixture against Stoke originally scheduled for March 1 has been selected for live Sky Sports coverage and moved to Sunday March 2. Of course I will be at a wedding in Mexico that weekend. Anyone know any good pubs with Sky in Cancun?
Hopefully there will be more Sky dates to come. QPR-Stoke is a good choice, since both have the potential to be exciting in the second half of the season.
Some bonus Monday Championship football on Setanta North America today... http://play.www.setanta.servecast.net/setanta/us/default.aspx?aff=1 Mon Jan 28 02:30PM Eastern Length: 2 hr 30 min LIVE Setanta Sports USA English Football League "Championship" Leicester City vs Crystal Palace
The Rs are on Sky this coming weekend... http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,12942,00.html Sun March 2 QPR v Stoke City (1.15pm UK) Still trying to figure out how this is going to be available in North America. Unfortunately, there is an early Premier League match that morning, covered by Setanta in the UK and US. The Setanta schedule is clearly not correct at the moment... http://www.setantanorthamerica.com/TVSchedules/SetantaSportsChannelSchedules.aspx Lists a "first air"ing of the Rs match at 5:30 AM, which will be kind of tough considering the match takes place nearly 3 hours after that. Hopefully they will show it live on their Extra channel (DirecTV and Broadband). Showing it tape delay could be an option as well. Edit: Just sent an email to Setanta about the match. Hope to hear back from them soon
Setanta have updated their Broadband 2/Setanta Extra listings and we're still not on them. Only a Portuguese match listed for Sunday. And they still have us listed to be shown on tape 3 hours before the match actually takes place. No reply yet from Setanta - feeling a little peeved about it, if you can't tell
I just sent them an email, too. I'll let you know if they respond. They were pretty good at responding about the FA Cup game.
Cheers No word on my end and their online listings are still wrong Would really like to watch this match. Haven't seen the post-De Canio/transfer window Rs in action live.
So good news/bad news here... From Setanta 23:00 - 01:00 Eastern Standard Time Coca Cola Championship - QPR v Stoke City First rate action from Loftus Road as Queens Park Rangers take on Stoke City. QPR and former Napoli boss Luigi Di Canio will be hoping his rapidly improving side can conjure up a victory in front of an expectant home crowd. So it looks like a tape delay showing for the Rs on Sunday - and a crappy time at that - 11pm EST. No update to the Broadband2/Extra listings - in hope that they might show it live.
No response to my email. When I checked the schedule yesterday, it showed both the 5:15 a.m. and 11 p.m. showing. Now just the 11 p.m., eh? Maybe we could get Kitty's or Summers to tape it for us and meet up after work on Monday. Edit: Nevermind. I forgot that my aunt is in town and is coming over after work on Monday. I'm not sure if Kitty's or Summers is even open until 1 a.m. on Sunday night/Monday morning.
The Championship gets the shaft from Setanta North America again today. Not showing the important (Sky televised, Stoke-Palace) promotion match live, favoring the Aberdeen-Falkirk match instead - a mid-table match in the world's least interesting league.
And they've stopped putting Championship matches on their Extra/Broadband 2 channel. I'm a little worried about the future of the division on Setanta. Then again, let's just hope the Rs spend their cash wisely and put their future in this division in doubt
Just wait, in a couple of years with QPR firmly entrenched in the Premiership. We will have Atouk and others on here complaining that now that QPR are on American TV so often that their wives won't let them go over to London to see the R's live!!!
Hallelujah! Some live Championship action this weekend on Setanta 12:15 - 14:30 Eastern Daylight Time Live Coca Cola Championship - West Brom v Watford Live action from the Hawthorns as West Bromich Albion take on Watford. The baggies will be concentrating on getting on promotion after their FA Cup semi final exit last weekend. K.O. 12:20pm ET.
