http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/motorsport/world_rally/5002280.stm It looks like Gronholm is going to have a battle to keep second place, from Daniel Sordo.
Gronholm wins Acropolis, Loeb second. Solberg forced out of the last stage on day two because of a tangle with a non-race vehicle, raced on the last day on a penalty.
No more WRC racing until august 11th, maybe a way to watchthe World cup quietly. So, we're actualy in this season's HT. Might be the time to post pics and videos while the teams are preparing their return. Well, next rally is in Germany on tarmac. That's in fact Loeb's home rally since he's Alsacian from across the border and he never lost this event... Anyway, for tyhose who did not get to see enough WRC action this year : The mammoth Atkinson 'jump' in Rally Sardinia. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_C4oUiE1IsA&search=wrc Loeb brings back his ailing Citroën in this year's Greece rally. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f7prNxhYE48&search=wrc It took less than 45 mns for the Citroën-Kronos team to change the 4 suspensions, the gearbox, the clutch and a drive shaft ! Seemingly interesting ones on this page (not checked) http://www.youtube.com/results?related=wrc&sort=relevance&page=1
Ireland, Norway, and Portugal added to 2007 calendar. Australia, Cyprus, and Turkey are dropped. http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/motorsport/world_rally/5150452.stm
I'm pretty late to this thread, too. Holy crap there are some awesome videos of WRC on youtube. I could waste hours there.
Rallying starts up again in Germany with the Alsatian Loeb currently leading his "home" rally. Here is an interesting article on Marcus Gronholm. http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/motorsport/world_rally/4780735.stm The best part is this photo which is proof that the best piece of fashion the US gave the world are blue jeans and the worst are baseball caps. Way to raise the dork factor, Marcus.
http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/motorsport/world_rally/4788265.stm Loeb wins, becoming the first to win five rallies in a row in the same country.
Gronholm wins Finland. Loeb second. http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/motorsport/world_rally/5268484.stm Loeb still has a massive lead in the standings.
Sebastien Loeb wins Japan to beat Carlos Sainz's rally record with 27 rally wins. It is a shame that this run is not on American TV.
It's pissing me off that WRC is rarely featured on TV here in the states. I wonder if given the type of racing it is if it's just too difficult to effectively film the races for television.
For about three years, we had an effective program on Speed Channel. The issue is why Speed does not want to carry the program anymore? Maybe the WRC raised the cost or maybe it doesn't match Speed's programming formats, heavy on NASCAR. Or it may be that the program was supported by Subaru and without that sponsorship, interest dried up on both Speed's and WRC's account.
I haven't tried (well, I don't need to), but I've found this for those who have a bitorrent client. Maybe someone might give it a try.
The car is OK, blue and red can make good designs but frankly this livery is horrid...Too bad for a car and a driver who will stay in the WRC legend.
Gronholm has the early lead in Cyprus over Loeb. Sordo is going to race for the rejuvenated Citroen team next year. http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/motorsport/world_rally/5318368.stm
In case someone was wondering what could stop Sebastien Loeb's successful run in this championship. http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/motorsport/world_rally/5386578.stm
So the guy pulls a George Bush and now his title hopes are on the line. Can't these guys find less dangerous ways to train?
