September 26th Rankings The only difference in the top 10 is that Tusculum sneaked into 10th place ahead of West Texas A&M. UCSD fell to 13th, 1 spot behind West Florida, who has a worse record (5-1-2) against inferior competition. No other CCAA teams are in the top 25, and only 1 is listed in the 'also receiving votes' category. http://www.nscaa.com/seniorRes.php?it=202
October 3rd rankings Top Ten this week: UNO W Chester Tampa Tusculum St Rose Quincy UCSD Billings Metro W Fla Although I'm glad to see UCSD (9-1-2) at 7th, I wouldn't have ranked them above Metro State (12-1-0). I'm glad to see Tusculum up there, I've liked them ever since they traveled out to play UCSD 4 years ago. How does W Fla (6-2-2) jump from unranked to the 10th spot? http://www.nscaa.com/seniorRes.php?it=226
September 30th A-J ratings Albyn-Jones ratings finally updated. Here is the top 30. There is still no 2006 Conference Strength ratings yet, so I've up behind each team the average rating for their opponents so far. 1735 Metro St 938 1600 UNO 1039 1571 UCSD 1255 1533 GVSU 942 1489 Seattle Pac 1050 1460 St Rose 1044 1448 W Chester 959 1408 Carson-N 852 1397 Tampa 1180 1390 Quincy 1123 1388 FPU 1109 1361 Seattle 1033 1358 Chico St 1255 1352 NKU 1089 1319 Mercyhurst 1107 1318 St Edwards 1079 1313 Merrimack 906 1312 W Tex A&M 1016 1308 W Fla 1004 1307 Montana St 967 1303 Cen Okla 997 1298 Columbus St 993 1284 Tusculum 999 1281 CSU LA 1227 1261 Washburn 875 1255 CSU DH 1248 1248 Pomona 1033 1238 W Wash 992 1237 Regis 1028 1226 St Leo 795
Still can't figure out how they rank. I guess the big change, from UCSD's perspective, was that Seattle Pac. lost to seattle. As SPU now lost to two teams that UCSD beat they fell off alot. Seems a bit harsh to me though.(especially considering CHico beat UCSD, tied Seattle and lost to SPU, I think) Also Chico is better than they get credit for. I think they could be in the top 25. Just seemed like a huge amount of movement in the polls. I had asked earlier if the polls had any influence on who goes to the play offs, and was told no. My daughters coach said that the top 4 ranked teams in the far west go to NCAA. So I guess it does matter?
From my limited experience, it is not the top 4 teams. The rankings do not occur until after conferences have their playoffs. The CCAA only gets at the most 2 teams going to the NCAAs (the 2 who were in the conference championship game), regardless of how many really should be going. * * * I guess that Tampa has been playing better teams than I thought, judging from their A-J ratings and the average rating of their opponents.
Not to be a pain....but last year 3 teams from the CCAA went to the NCAA's, UCSD, CSDH and CHice, as well as SPU. From what I gather they were the top 4 teams in the far west region. So I think that it does matter? Anyway, win the CCAA and I'm pretty sure you get to go.
The first region rankings from the NCAA have been posted at the following link: http://www.ncaasports.com/soccer/womens/polls/divii Again, the top four teams in each region make the postseason. This is your best gauge of who's on track to getting in.. the coaches poll, third-party power rankings et al are nice to have, but they have no bearing whatsoever on who gets to the NCAAs.
Top 25 'upsets' for 10/4-10/8 Results are from the NSCAA scoreboard. Two teams ranked in the top 10 lost twice during this period. 04 October #6 Quincy lost 1-2 to unranked SIU-Edwardsville 06 October #8 Montana State wiped out by #9 Metro State 0-5 #12 Mercyhurst lost 0-1 to unranked W. Virginia Wesleyan 07 October #14 Adelphi lost 0-3 to unranked Bridgeport 08 October #6 Quincy defeated 0-1 by unranked Indianapolis #8 Montana State edged 0-1 by unranked Regis
Seattle Pacific dropped a second game, to Western Washington and Seattle tied against (I think) Central Washington. Maybe a chance for Chico to move up or at least into the top 25 (with away wins at Bakersfield and Cal State LA). Western Washington may move up a little as well. Sure looks like the top four out of CCAA will be Chico, UCSD, Sonoma and CSDH. Hope the playoffs are down south this year!
NCSAA 10/10 Rankings This week's rankings are out. Top 10 are: UNO 13-0-0 W Chester 13-0-0 Tampa 11-1-0 Tusculum 8-0-2 UCSD 12-1-2 St Rose 11-1-1 Metro 14-1-0 GVSU 12-1-0 W Fla 8-2-2 Columbus St 13-1-0 Seattle Pacific didn't receive any votes (only 2 teams not in the top 25 did get votes). Chico State is listed at #24. http://nscaa.com/seniorRes.php?it=240
10/11 NCAA Regional Rankings When I checked last Thursday they weren't up, but they are now. Here are the current top 4 in each region: Central: UNO, Washburn, Truman, Cen MO St Great Lakes: Quincy, Mercyhurst, GVSU, N. Mich Midwest: Metro, St Edwards, W Tex A&M, Mont-Billings New England: St Rose, FPU, Merrimack, Mass-Lowell Northeast: W Chester, IAPA, SPU, Bridgeport South: Tampa, W Fla, Rollins, St Leo Northeast: Columbus St, Tusculum, Carson-Newman, Armstrong Far West: UCSD, Seattle, Seattle Pac, CSU Chico
10/11 Albyn-Jones ratings 1625 Metro 1606 UNO 1498 UCSD 1486 W Chester 1448 GVSU 1446 FPU 1441 Tampa 1392 CSU Chico 1382 Carson-N 1377 Seattle Pac 1372 Seattle 1371 St Rose 1369 St Edwards 1344 Cen Okla 1320 Columbus St 1305 Tusculum 1304 Merrimack 1302 Quincy 1294 Mercyhurst 1289 W Fla 1288 NKU 1286 BYU Hawaii 1280 Montana St 1273 W Tes A&M 1257 Wisc-Parkside 1251 CSU DH So right now the 4 Far West region would have the 3rd, 8th, 10th, and 11th rated teams facing each other.

10/17 Rankings The 17 Oct rankings are out, here is the top 10: UNO W Chester UCSD Tusculum Metro St St Rose GVSU Tampa W Fla Seattle I've often wondered how many voters there are - how is it that last week there were only 2 teams not in the top 25 listed as receiving votes, and this week only 5? With none of them being Seattle Pacific, who is 13-3-0? Last week Tusculum was listed as having a record of 9-0-2 and this week it is 10-0-0 (they have 3 ties now). Chico State, this week at 21, is listed as not receiving votes last week when it was actually ranked 24th. Columbus State (10th last week) and Truman State (15th) dropped out of the rankings all together. Tampa dropped 5 spots. http://www.nscaa.com/seniorRes.php?it=254
The records thing is a flaw in the NSCAA's website. Coaches put in their results each week, and the web site tabulates results based on what coaches input. But as you can see, there are inconsistencies. If you look at the region rankings, for example, it'll list a match that happened that week under one team's results but not the other. I don't know who the programmer is, but it's an issue, especially when the coaches' association is looking for legitimacy in what is increasingly becoming an illegitimate poll to the casual observer.
I can't believe how flawed the rankings are this season. The GLVC only has one team in the top 25. The top five teams have four losses or less (only three of those 19 losses are non-conference games) and the next two teams only have 5 and 6 losses. There is one 10 game winner, two 11 game winners, two 12 game winners, a 13 game winner and a 15 game winner. Anyone who has seen the top teams in the GLVC knows that there should be more then one team in the top 25.
Glvc http://www.glvcsports.com/sport.asp?path=wsoc Even though the GLVC was only the 8th rated conference at the end of last year, they certainly seem to have a lot of worthy teams. I'm used to seeing NKU, Edwardsville & Parkside up there, but hadn't noticed Bellarmine (then, I usually just check the top 25 scores...)

Actually, they've posted them today (after not posting them last week).. which makes sense since DII selections are Monday at 5 pm. http://www.ncaasports.com/soccer/womens/polls/divii
Totally spaced on the date, thanks! These rankings blow my mind, NMU has only played two teams in these rankings and lost 5-1 and 4-1, while a team like Bellarmine has played four going 2-2, with a 2-1 and a 2-1(ot to #2 Quincy) loss. The rankings show the GLIAC being below the GLVC, yet the top for don't reflect that.
