Did wonders for the current Sporting team ask Inter ;)

I noticed looking through the histories of past UEFA Cup at the number of "no name" teams...but this year it looks like many recognisable teams save for maybe 5-8 teams whereas in the past you couldn't pronounce 1/3 of the teams' names.

it's all because of intertoto allowing 11 teams to advance to the 2nd qualifying round of UC and those teams easily progressed right through to the group stage as opposed to only 3 teams going to the first round...Smart UEFA

    Our Group:

Sevilla (aka the team we beat in last years preseason)
    AZ (Sportings bitches)
    Liberec (who?)
Grasshoppers (I am more afraid of Dragon flies  )
    BRAGA

sevilla isn't the 2nd team out of that city anymore. they left betis far behind. so be cautious.
az: same thing. a team that developed a lot in recent years and is doing very well in the dutch league. neither a team to underestimate.
liberec: well, heard of the team already but can't say that much about them. but chec teams in general have tall players what could make things a bit more difficult for us, as portuguese teams like to play from the wings.
grashoppers: a team where, i think, the name is bigger than the team.

coming to the conclusion that braga has a realistic chance to be among the first 3 teams of this group. go ahead!

Complete 180 for Portugal, Great week

Porto & Benfica pull off big wins, Sporting get a draw in the CL

    And

Braga with a 4-0 Drubbing of Liberec on Matchday 2 of the UEFA Cup to take us to 2nd in Group C.

Re: 2006/07 UEFA Cup Discussion Thread [R] (SC Braga)

    Matchday 3 is here.

Braga face defending UEFA Cup, UEFA Super Cup and current Spanish league 2nd place team (by 1 point to Barca) Sevilla.

Pretty much the toughest team in the UEFA Cup and we play them away....last time we played them was last year in a pre-season friendly in which we won, but of course then did nothing in Europe while they lifted two titles.

I am hoping that the Portuguese style still trumps Spanish style on this game and the trend of us beating Spain continues but this will be a VERY difficult test and I would be thrilled with a draw.

I like how the title was revised to include Braga, however that is bound to change somewhat

Lost 2-0 to the Defending Champs and Spanish League contenders.

We scored one in the first half but the pass was called offside.

Anyway we are off for matchday 4 and hopefully AZ will beat Liberec, if they do then all we would need is a tie vs Grasshoppers at home to advance. Should Liberec win, we are done.

Re: 2006/07 UEFA Cup Discussion Thread [R] (SC Braga)

    Matchday 4 (Braga off) Results:

    Sevilla 4 -0 Grasshoppers

    AZ Alkmaar 2-2 Liberec

A big thanks to AZ for leveling with Liberec in the 89th...had they not tied, Braga would be out.

    Standings:

AZ - 7 (Played 3, through to round of 32)
Sevilla - 7 (Played 3, through to round of 32)
    Liberec - 5 (played all 4 games)
    Braga - 3 (played 3)
    Grasshoppers - 0 (played 3, eliminated)

We Need to win our final game at home to Grasshoppers to advance, a tie doesn't cut it.

Re: 2006/07 UEFA Cup Discussion Thread [R] (SC Braga)

So let's say that this scenario happens:

Braga beats Grasshoppers and gets the three points, for a total of 6.

Liberec ties Seville at home, for a total of 6 points.

Braga beat Liberec in their match, so does this mean that they go ahead based on the match, or is it a case of goal differencial, or goals scored? Anyone know?

Sevilla beat Liberac 4-0 today. So Braga must win next week. If liberac would have tied today and braga won next week, braga would still pass, it would be based on head-to-head.

...but there is no head-to-head, though. The teams all play each-other once and that's it. I am not sure if the match that they play against eachother counts for tie breakers...

You guys are making this more complicated than it is. First of all Liberec played their final game today against AZ and tied. Which means they have a total of 5 points. If Braga win their last match against Grasshopers, Liberec are out and Braga will go through with 6 points.

BTW, Sevilla beat Grasshopers today not Liberec

    next and final matches

    Seville vs AZ
    Braga vs Grasshopers

My apologies. I was under the assumption that Liberec still had to face Seville. Never mind

If Braga wants to join Benfica in the round of 32 they need to win tommorrow at home vs Grasshoppers. Hopefully we will get the job done.

It's a good thing nobody reads your posts or they would be stuck watching some other team playing today, frustrated , not knowing it's not on today . :D
