with such early date on Matchday 1 there will have to be one or two friendlies beforehand , any word on that ?
There is a message on the 2004 schedule thread of two. No opponets or locations. I would assume there would be at least one in December or the first part of January, and one closer to the 1st matchday.
Great job and thanks - I added all the dates to my calendar!! FYI - FIFA did announce last week that the draw would be on Dec 9th. Thats one less week to wait. http://fifaworldcup.yahoo.com/06/en/041028/1/2i8b.html
Rob - Thanks. I know it's mainly a schedule thread, but I suggest this year we update with results and scorers so it can be a reference for posters who are discussing games and want to jog their memories (as opposed to deleting as we go).
I hope the US will play a friendly in January. It seems logical since they'll begin the hex so early in February. Last time, the US played China and Colombia IIRC in the lead up to qualifying, but in think the Colombia game was in February. A dreadful match IIRC. I hope we get better competition if we schedule somebody, but seeing as how there aren't any int'l dates, beggars can't be choosers.
Also, a friendly in April or May would help the team prepare for the June blitz. Any int'l dates in April/May?
Does the Orange work better? I was going for Yellow because of the Gold Cup. But Orange is close enough.
Here are the kickoff times for the World Cup matches in Germany. Group round 15.00 h = 3PM 18.00 h = 6PM 21.00 h = 9PM Round of sixteen: 17.00 h = 5PM 21.00 h = 9PM Final: 20.00 h = 8PM What's the time difference from Germany to the East Coast of the US? 6 Hours?
It's 6 hours from Berlin to the east coast of the United States. So the U.S. eastern time zone starting times will be 9:00 A.M., 11:00 A.M., 12:00 P.M., 2:00 P.M., and 3:00 P.M.
We have miscommunication here. The first post refers to the draw for the CONCACAF Hexagonal in 2004. You're talking about the World Cup draw in 2005.
Why not play any matches at the HDC? I don't understand why all the matches are on the East Coast when they get just as big of a crowd out here.
This question has been dealt with alot, but one of the main reasons seems to be travel distances for European based players. This brings up a point. Lets try to keep this thread clear of questions regarding rosters, decisions and the like. If you find a friendly, or even a rumor of one, go ahead and post a link and I will affix it to the master schedule.
The USA should try and schedule a freindly in a place like Manchester to get some much needed experience in a hostile place. When we play Mexico its usually a hostile place like this year in the Olympic qualifiers. So we usually lose(Have we ever won in Mexico?). This year in Chicago it was a great atmosphere but, most of the fans were for Poland and it helped Poland alot they got a draw with their B squad.
Last two Hexagonals: For World Cup 1998: United States drew 2-2 at home and drew 0-0 in Mexico For World Cup 2002: United States won 2-0 at home and lost 1-0 in Mexico Mexico had three wins and two draws at home in WCQ Hexagonal for 1998 and four wins and one loss at home in WCQ Hexagonal for 2002 for a combined 23 out of 30 possible points in ten home games. So the answer might be no (going back farther the United States was not in qualifying for World Cup 1994 and then you go back to before MLS existed), but if we can qualify for the World Cup despite losing in Mexico and then beat or advance farther than Mexico in a neutral site World Cup that's good enough for me.
It won't be anyone big because the winter breaks will be over. Could be a Scandinavian opponent again. And based on the time, the game will most assuredly be at the HDC.
Here's a wild guess. How about Ecuador at HDC? It's about 10 days before the start of qualifying, Ecuador is more similar in style to CONCACAF teams than a European team and they've come here before and played the US, so they would probably be receptive to playing us here. And maybe the US will have camp at HDC around that time.
From the FIFA.com schedule: There are no teams with matches on the 30th or around it. It is also a break from the UEFA club competitions and many of the European leagues are on their winter breaks. The South American teams are also on break from qualfying.
