In case you didn't hear on the broadcast, I think Eric Wynalda said the 2005 opener on ABC will be DC at Chivas. Sounds like an excellent opener.
Uggghh, mmm Cuanto copas tengas gana?.....probalby not right but it has been like 4 years since i have had intro spanish.
Makes more sense schdule-wise. Creates more sell-outs. The first game for Chivas will be a sell-out - so you might as well have a good team up against them for the TV coverage. Then they can have Chivas/Galaxy be week two or three, and keep the early-season excitement flowing a few more weeks. Can you imagine the first-month attendance numbers? Imagine. . Chivas vs. DC (home opener) - sell out LA vs. Whoever (home opener) - sell out LA vs. Chivas - sell out LA vs. SJ - sell out Plus, I figure any home games for Chivas will be good for a while (depends on the quality, and how the marketing continues) Next Year is gonna rock.
As you say, this very much depends on the success of the Chivas USA concept. If it does indeed bring out the masses of Chivas fans and Mexicans (or anti-Chivas fans) then you'll probably see larger attendances when they visit Dallas, Chicago, NY, DC, too. Next year is gonna be interesting!!!
Indeed...interesting in a good way. If Chivas playing at other MLS stadiums draws out the rowdy, loud, passionate fans and drowns out the annoying soccer moms and little kids, then I'm definitely all for it! For our 10th season let's start bring our league up to maturity. It's time to grow up and start focusing on the supporter's groups and the passionate fans. Doing a lot more marketing on college campuses (ESPECIALLY in Columbus and Utah) will help with that as well.
Hitting the college market is a must. What have they done with it so far? If I went to school anywhere near an MLS franchise... (sorry but 6 hours to Chicago is a bit much) Maybe I'll get a job in an MLS market after I graduate in the spring.
college campus is a goldmine for mls ....especially if they started a student discount....most people play intramural soccer even if they never played soccer before...plus the international flavor of soccer is always a plus in the university setting...and most of all mls is rather inexpensive which is a must for the poor college student....and i'm sure college kids wouldn't balk at the idea of hanging somewhere watching a game drinking a few beers and actin a little rowdy i got 20 kids from my school to go to a dc united game...and i went to johns hopkins up in baltimore
And San Jose. We have several great soccer colleges in the bay area: Santa Clara, SJSU, Stanford, and Berkeley all have good soccer programs. We should have a bus chartered from each school coming to Spartan for Earthquakes games!!
This is a Championchip year, when you win you are a Champion, that is a CAMPION in sapnish, and you say: Cuantos campionatos de la MLS han ganado or, Cuantas veces han sido campeones (de la MLS)
