While looking through the lists of MLS Superdrafts and Supplemental Drafts, I was shocked to see an abnormality of amazing portions. In 2005, 4 players were selected in the final round that are still playing today. Not only are these guys still MLS professionals, but 3 of them actually wore the captain's armbands for their teams. We've all heard the story of Tom Brady being a low round draft pick, but imagine 4 Tom Bradys in the same draft year. It happened in MLS in 2005. Since there were 48 Superdraft picks before the supplemental draft, these guys were basically selected in the 8th round of the draft. 86th pick Dan Kennedy 89th pick Chris Wondolowski 91st pick Dan Gargan 93rd pick Jeff Larentowicz Larentowicz and Wondolowski have national team caps and another guy selected in that round, Cameron Knowles, also made his MLS team Real Salt Lake and got 4 appearances.
I gotta give Cam some credit. He made a career out of playing soccer like those other guys. He played several years with the Portland Timbers and one with the Montreal Impact before they became MLS teams. I think he's a coach now.
And FS1 made the point yesterday that Bobby Boswell went un-drafted in 2005. He's got three USMNT appearances, and is regularly his club's captain. And he's reportedly earned more MLS minutes than anyone from the draft that year, including those late-round stars listed above.
