It would be interesting to see an asset/liability assessment of those figures. I.e. see who is worth the salary.

There are sixteen players in a twelve team league that earn more than our highest paid player.

Now if we could somehow get contract length, we'd know exactly where Crew are at going forward on a new coach. To be fair, I'm excited that not a single person on this team makes the league max. Gives Crew some flexiblity.

So how does MLS explain LA being almost a million over the cap?

These aren't the numbers they use to formulate the cap, I would guess.

Plus obie didn't take out Dev players and GenAd salaries.

Crew's number without those two 1.445M

I assumed that since our cap number was so close to the ceiling, and our front office claims we have very little cap space left, that these were fairly accurate numbers.

It's interesting to play with the figures...

Please note this is all subject to wide interpretation.

LA absorbs 11.42% of the MLS salary pie. When looking at how much salary was required to earn points so far, the folks in NE and the Chits should be more than happy, same with San Jose. NE seems to have made the best of what they had.

LA's without Dev and GenAd: $2,422,612.00

I think with the Crew's salaries it might be fairly close since they don't have any players over Max salary. Add in Walker's 28 to 30K, or if I was given wrong info his 102K, and Sanneh's salary portion to our numbers and yeah I bet the Crew are pretty close to the "cap"

Teams with players over max like LA probably have to be minipulated to fit a "cap." They may just take say 300K of their salary toward the cap. So if you take out 600K of Donovan's salary LA is at $1,822,612. Which with earlier reports that the cap was anywhere from 1.8 to 2M this year would put them right there.

As for a team like DC, Adu's salary doesn't even count against the cap at all. He's GenAd.

That is an interesting question. Although I don't think it does. A large portion of Danny Szetela's salary is paid by adidas according to reports last year. He gets anywhere between 150 to 200K from them, yet his MLS salary was only reported as 37K.

I wonder how much Dallas has increased since announcing they are moving into a new stadium.

When the heck did EJ come up with a new contract? I thought he was re-sign a few years back, but his numbers back then didn't warrant the kind of salary this is proclaiming. And where did they come across these figures? MLS certainly doesn't want these out, so who are they getting them from? I know, I'm just being skeptical.

Break outside the Crew Forum KK, you'll find that EJ signed a new deal in May.
Those numbers are 99% right, I mean Goff has gone on record with them as it was probably another leak from the MLSPA -- just like last year.

I'll buy a beer for whomever can announce to the good people of this forum how much longer Martino and Buddle are under contract for. It has to be close to being up I'm thinking.

food for thought though, Buddle and Johnson have the same amount of goals, only Johnson has played 7 fewer matches. What a bargain Buddle is, more minutes, and just as many goals as "the hottest American player at the moment"....Genius.

It still amazes me how little the dev players are paid. Twelve grand for a starting goalkeeper. Ouch.

Perhaps, but he's on a contract that Crew offered him with little to no wiggle room. Suprising that Crew, already with the services of Jon Busch, would offer such contract. Is it not plausible to state that Andrulis thought Jordan was a shoe in to replace Busch?

Answer me this - if LA is allowed to have Nike pay Donovan the best part of a mill why were the crew banned form using the hockey guy's private jet for aways???

IIRC it was deemed a competitive advantage... what a load of hypocritical bollocks.

I'm glad to see Busch got a raise from his 04 salary. It's still kind of insulting that he's paid less than his backup.

Danny must get some promotional bonus or something. Does Barclay get something similar? He used to make about 80K in P-40. I'm surprised Loco doesn't make more. He has a family to take care of.

With all due respect Jordan is gone after the end of the season, so his wage shouldn't factor into anything. Additionally Busch is coming off of surgery, and thus shouldn't get a raise above a cost of living adjustment. If he does well next season, shows that he's healed up, fairplay give him the raise. Busch even starting next season? As Corso would say, not so fast my friend.
