Galatasaray to play in LG Amsterdam Tournament

On Friday August 4th and Saturday August 5th 2006, for the eighth time in a row, the LG Amsterdam Tournament will take place in the Amsterdam ArenA.

Right before the start of the different European leagues, four of the strongest European teams with international stars, young talent and a unique scoring system that – with extra points for goals – rewards offensive football, guarantees a spectacular and offensive football feast.

Hosts AFC Ajax will be keen to regain their trophy and look set to field new signings ex-Manchester United and Milan defender Jaap Stam and Kenneth Perez for the first time along side record signing Klaas Jan Huntelaar, in a bid to start their 2006/7 European campaign in style.

Football-superpower Manchester United with stars like Ruud van Nistelrooy, Wayne Rooney, Ryan Giggs, Cristiano Ronaldo and ex-Ajax player Edwin van der Sar will return to the LG Amsterdam Tournament after four years.
On confirming their attendance, coach Sir Alex Ferguson said: “We are delighted to be invited back. It is the most prestigious pre-season tournament in Europe and is always one of great quality. The ArenA is fantastic and everyone is really looking forward to it.”

The second team to join host Ajax is 2003 UEFA Champions League winners, and new Portuguese Champions, FC Porto. Returning for the second time to the tournament, this time coach Co Adriaanse and player Benni McCarthy will face their old club on the first tournament evening.

Completing the 2006 line-up is the most successful club of Turkey, Galatasaray. After three years, the team of manager Erik Gerets returns to Amsterdam and the Turks will do everything in their power to improve on their third place finish last time.

Ticket sales starts on May 13th and, with tickets ranging from only €27,- to € 55, for two matches the LG Amsterdam Tournament provides a unique opportunity to see these four world class teams in action! .

What an amazing end to the season. After losing to Fener, I honestly thought that was it and we'd have to settle for 2nd place in the league. But it shows the strong mentality of Cim Bom and what Gerets has placed in his players. For them to keep winning despite that loss to Fener and doing their jobs and keeping their professionalism by beating Besiktas and doing the job against Kayserispor. It's a true lesson that it really isn't over until it's over. For Fener...they lost the title to Galatasaray but Cim Bom did it's job by doing what it had to do. I'm ecstatic..... since 2002, we've seen Besiktas win the title in their centenary year and then Fener win it two times in a row. This brings Gala back to European front stage and hopefully this brings in a new era for Galatasaray.

    Gasaray sen bizim hersey imizin.

To see Cim Bom taraftar send the players roses is an example of absolute class. This was before the match played against Kayserispor and well before we knew we were going to be champions. But even though most supporters believed that we would finish the season in second position, the fans still showed their appreciation by throwing roses to the players. It must have been even sweeter when we knew we won the league after Fener's draw. It's easy to support your team when they win, but when victory is not assured, it means more to show your support.

It reminds me of a banner that was in Ali Sami Yen translated in English:
"Victories and trophies come and go. But your class is enough for us."

THE STORY OF GESTION COPA AMSTERDAM

The road to the most attractive youth football event in the world...

Talenthouse VOF organises Copa Amsterdam from the conviction that Amsterdam deserves a international top youth footbal tournament. Amsterdam stands for Ajax and Ajax stands for youth. And because of this, we find that in Amsterdam you must be able to admire the very best youth football players from all over the world on a Under-19 tournament.

This way said, this way done. We have gotten to work with the realisation of our ambition: Making Copa Amsterdam the most attractive youth football event of the world. Attractive for the public, sponsors, media, and clubs!

The concept seems simple: eight international top clubs, one field, public close to the field, smelling the grass, a signature can be asked of a near future big football player, an amateur club from Amsterdam as location. Not more.

The first edition of the tournament was fantastic. We have been really overwhelmed by the enormous interest of the media and public for just an international top youth football tournament in Amsterdam.

Although we pursue an extremely profesional organisation, pure football pleases us the most. That's the reason why our slogan is: Playing simply and nicely soccer!
