Better Timing Glad US Soccer is giving the home team that hosts the final a full month to promote the event. Smart move.
Adding to the USOC Schedule Took a look on the MLS website. They have a Dark Green line determining the Dates for the US Open Cup. Wed June 30th will be the 3rd round. And it looks like the Dallas Burn & Columbus Crew who didn't make the playoffs last season will be fighting each other in the 3rd round of the US Open Cup. The 2004 season is looking better & better by the minute. Not joking. Go to www.mlsnet.com and click on for the 2004 MLS Schedule. That match is covered in that Dark Green line.
Re: Adding to the USOC Schedule They changed it. There is now a dark green line with "TBA at TBA." http://www.ussoccer.com/events/competitions.sps?iType=262&icustompageid=9091 "The remaining two MLS teams (Dallas Burn & Columbus Crew) will enter the Open Cup in the third round. The two squads will not face-off in the third round but may square off against an MLS team in the fourth round depending on the geographical pairings."
Draw for Florida qualifying is up http://www.fssa.org/nationalcup/OpenCupMen04.htm http://lhusoc.tripod.com/usasaq.htm What is curious is that they have DS United and Uruguay SC drawn to play in the first round. Seems like they want a different team to take the other spot in the Region III finals.
What I'm curious about is what brought out all the new teams. Last year, they only had 4 teams enter; year before that, 6; and the year before that I don't remember and it's not in your website This year NINE teams have entered. As far as I can remember, that's more than I've seen in any other state. I see that there are TWO teams going to the regional playoffs. I'm curious if every state in Region III gets that, and if so, how they're going to handle that many teams in a weekend-long tournament. I wonder if the increased number of slots for USASA teams in the cup has drawn a little interest. That might be the case. And the reason we haven't seen the increase in other states is because their registration deadlines were before the cup structure was announced. And finally, yeah, it is bizarre that they have DS United and Uruguay set to play each other in the first round. But maybe it was random draw, and they two just got unlucky.
Any idea whats up with the Vistula website? I went there to see if they had any info on New Jersey, and it is not there.
Sent an email to my Vistula contact. We'll see what he says. I've actually seen him wander in here once or twice.
New Hampshire Haven't scanned back through all the posts, but I found this info on a word doc on the New Hampshire SA website: March 05, 2004 - Cups Draw (except Under-23 Cups) April 11, 2004 - State Men’s Open Cup Champions Declared
Brackets for Illinois are up http://www.illinoissoccer.org/2004 open cup men draw.pdf I also got an e-mail back from Oregon saying that they have no teams entered, not that they have had many over the years anyway. I also e-mailed all of the states in Region I. I got replies from Rhode Island and Vermont saying they had no info now, but to check back. Aso got replies from East Pa. and New Hampshire saying that they had forwarded my e-mail to someone who would have better info. Sent e-mails to Texas South as well, since their registration deadline passed.
Update Only one team each from Colorado and Texas South. Colorado Springs Brewmen again represent Colorado, and Deportivo Peru from the San Antonio Soccer Association for Texas South. According to the Kearny Scots website, they defeated Partick Real Wyckoff 4-1 in a qualifier on November. I've e-mailed the NJSA for more info, and I'll e-mail Kearny as well and see if they have more info on the NJ qualifiers. Got word from East Pa. that it will be United German Hungarians v. Lighthouse SC in the final on April 4. I'm sure there is more to this tourney that the final, I can't see V-E and Ukranians skipping it.
Got some info on New Jersey http://sfa.hamamatsu.com/eaweb/njsasocdata.nsf Got it from the person who updates the Kearny Scots website, who also plays for them. The final is Kearny Scots vs. the winner of SC Portugues/Vistula. The SCP/Vistula match was to have been played, but was postponed for some reason, and yet to be replayed. Violet, heard yet from you Vistula contact? Maybe they can shed some light as to when this match will be played.
Haven't heard a thing, I'm sorry to say. I'm pretty useless this year. Thanks for gathering all this info!
Indiana Open Cup Final on April 10 - http://www.geocities.com/leszek_1999/index.html - check their schedule The Michigan link on your links pages is pointed to a porn site now.
Maryland now has the Region I schedule up - http://www.marylandsoccer.com/cups/2004/regiondraw.htm It's down near the bottom.
Website updated..... I figured I'd have a little fun here, and review the Top 4 best and worst state websites BEST (in no real order) 1. Illinois (http://www.illinoissoccer.org/) 2. Maryland (http://www.marylandsoccer.com/) 3. DC/Virginia (http://www.mdcvsa.org/) 4. Florida (http://www.fssa.org/) All of these state website offer plenty of info on their state cups, and also update the results fairly quickly. New Jersey (http://www.soccernjsa.com/) used to be in this class, but this year they seem to have fallen off the pace. WORST (also most dissapointing) 1. Wisconsin (http://www.wisoccer.org/) 2. Pennsylvania East (http://www.eastpasa.org/) 3. California North (http://www.california-soccer-assn-north.net/) 4. California South (http://www.csa-s.org/) These are by far the most dissapointing, considering the level of amature soccer that is in these states. PA. East and Cal South look like newer websites, but have hardly been updated. The Wisconsin website hasn't seen an update since last summer, and most of the results and standings are from 2002. Cal North seems to get updated, but lacks tournament results and news.
Update Got the schedule for Indiana up, also the results from Illinois up to the semifinals, except the AAC Eagles game, but that result should pop up on their website or the Illinois website soon http://lhusoc.tripod.com
Got the results I was looking for In one of the Illinois semifinals, AAC Eagles defeated Legovia 2-1, and now await the winner of tonights Wisla-Santos Degollago match in the finals SC Portugues defeated Kearney Scots 2-1 in the New Jersey final. Here is how the Region I brackets are looking: Western New York v. New Hampshire (both teams unknown) Boston Olympiakos (Mass.) v. Eastern New York Allied SC (Md.) v. SC Portugues (NJ) LCC International (DC/Vir.) v. UGH or Lighthouse SC (East Pa.)
Florida, Illinois reps settled CD Cortez and Kickers will represent Florida in Region III CD Cortez 4-2 DS United Kickers 3-2 Sunrise OES Wisla defeated AAC Eagles 4-2 for the Illinois spot. Still no info on the Wisla-Santo Degollado semifinal result Bloomington Cutters 4-1 over Elkhart Bayer to start Indiana qualifying No word yet on the UGH-Lighthouse East Pa. final http://lhusoc.tripod.com
