The first round first leg begins this weekend with a full slate of matches. The second leg will be played next weekend. For me, I love following the Intertoto Cup every year (especially the Faroese and Czech clubs). I will post the fixtures for the first leg later...

Thanks for posting the fixtures! Here are the scores from yesterday. I still can't believe Cork beat Malmo 3-1... Cork City (Ire) 3 Malmo (Swe) 1 Aberystwyth Town (Wal) 0 FC Dinaburg (Lat) 0 Ethnikos Achnas FC (Cyp) 1 Vardar (Mac) 5 Hibernians FC (Mal) 2 NK Slaven Koprivnica (Cro) 1 FC Spartak Trnava (Svk) 3 Debrecen VSC (Hun) 0 MFC Sopron (Hun) 1 Teplice (Cze) 0 CMC Publikum (Slv) 2 FK Sloboda Tuzla (B&H) 1 EfB (Den) 3 NSI Runavik (Far) 1

Decent result for Zlin on the road in Finland. That one away goal could prove vital. Surprising to see Ballymena United FC hold a Danish club to a 0-0 draw on the road.
Do you know if there was ever an official announcement or explanation given for Italy not participating this year? There had originally been one slot reserved for an Italian team, but I believe it was turned over to a fourth team from Germany. I know that the top two eligible Italian (Sampdoria and Chievo) teams had turned it down, but there was still some hope for Lecce to accept it. Obviously, they did not, but I'm wondering if the Italian federation formally backed out at that point, or if they just missed the deadline for nominating a team or what. Anyway, whatever insight you have is appreciated.
Sue, I found this on rsssf.com (author Karel Stokkermans)... The Italian team was supposed to enter the competition in the third round (I believe). "as Italy did not name a representative due to unclarities surrounding licenses for 2004/05, Germany obtained an additional spot which went to VfL Wolfsburg (other German teams moving up in the participants list)" http://www.rsssf.com/tablesu/uic04.html
Ah, I see, the old "unclarities surrounding licenses" snafu. Thanks for looking into it. I'm guessing Perugia's eventual relegation this season after their success in the InterToto Cup may have caused Italian teams to shy away from it. It's safe to say that "nothing ventured, nothing gained" is not a philosophy favored by most Italian teams (and the national team). Anyway, I'm disappointed. It would've been fun to see how a little club like Lecce could do.
1st round -- 2nd leg Fylkir (Iceland) 0 Ghent (Belgium) 1 (Ghent win 3-1 on aggregate) Ballymena (Northern Ireland) 0 OB Odense (Denmark) 7 (OB Odense win 7-0 on aggregate) Sartid (Serbia and Montenegro) 3 Sant Julia (Andorra) 0 (Sartid win 11-0 on aggregate) Slaven Belupo (Croatia) 3 Hibernians (Malta) 0 (Slaven Belupo win 4-2 on aggregate) Trans (Estonia) 0 Vetra (Lithuania) 0 (Vetra win 3-0 on aggregate) Vardar Skopje (Macedonia) 5 Achnas (Cyprus) 1 (Vardar Skopje win 10-1 on aggregate) Hapoel Beer Sheva (Israel) 0 Vllaznia (Albania) 1 (Hapoel Beer Sheva win on away goals rule 2-2) Khazar (Azerbaijan) 2 SW Bregenz (Austria) 1 (SW Bregenz win 5-2 on aggregate) FC Dinaburg (Latvia) 4 Aberystwyth Town (Wales) 0 (FC Dinaburg win 4-0 on aggregate) The rest of the games will be played today
Other results from today Teplice (Czech Republic) 3 Sopron (Hungary) 1 (Teplice win 3-2 on aggregate) Debrecen (Hungary) 4 Spartak Trnava (Slovakia) 1 (Spartak Trnava win on away goals rule 4-4) Sloboda (Bosnia) 1 Publikum Celje (Slovenia) 0 (Slobada win on away goals rule 2-2) Malmo (Sweden) 0 Cork City (Ireland) 1 (Cork City win 4-1 on aggregate) Dinamo Minsk (Belarus) 2 Odra (Poland) 0 (Dinamo Minsk win 2-1 on aggregate) Dubnica (Slovakia) 4 Teuta (Albania) 0 (Dubnica win 4-0 aggregate) Zlin (Czech Republic) 3 MyPa (Finland) 2 (Zlin win 4-3 on aggregate) Dila (Georgia) 3 Marek (Bulgaria) 3 (Marek win on away goals rule 3-3) FK Atlantas (Lithuania) 1 Spartak Moscow (Russia) 0 (Spartak Moscow win 2-1 on aggregate) Gloria Bistrita (Romania) 0 FC Thun (Switzerland) 0 (FC Thun win 2-0 on aggregate) Tampere (Finland) 0 Grevenmacher (Luxembourg) 0 (Tampere win on away goals rule)
I would have to say Cork City beating Malmo in both games is a surprise. Good to see both Czech clubs advance to the next round, but they were close ties. The second round begins this weekend.
2nd round 1st leg matches from yesterday Hibernian (Scotland) 1 Vetra (Lithuania) 1 Wolfsburg (Germany) 2 FC Thun (Swi) 3 EfB (Denmark) 1 Nice (France) 0 Spartak Moscow (Russia) 4 Kamen Ingrad (Croatia) 1 Slaven (Croatia) 2 Vllanzia (Albania) 0 Teplice (Czech Republic) 1 Shinnik Yaroslav (Russia) 2 Dubnica (Slovakia) 1 Liberec (Czech Republic) 2 Vardar (Macedonia) 1 AA Gent (Belgium) 0 Spartak Trnava (Slovakia) 2 Sloboda Tuzla (Bosnia-Herzegovina) 1 NEC (Netherlands) 0 Cork (Ireland) 0 Westerlo (Belgium) 0 Zlin (Czech Republic) 0 OB (Denmark) 0 Villarreal (Spain) 3 story about the games played yesterday... http://www.sportinglife.com/footbal...07/03/SOCCER_Eur-Intertoto.html&TEAMHD=france Four more games are to be played today...
sorry now bud but's whats the big deal with all the cork city results,i know the lad's were under dog's in all three games so far,but eircom league teams have pulled off quite a few upsets in their time........ most irish teams are known for their determination to grid out results. oh well at least someone still cares about the intertoto cup,lol
Wasn't that suprised to see Cork go over the Swedes but taking down a pretty good Dutch team would definetly be something to brag about. And how about the Bundesliga side droping?
Well, NEC isn't that good. They only finished 14th last season and only have been training for about 2 weeks now.

Fixtures for the 3rd round 1st leg - July 17/18 2nd leg - July 24/25 Tescoma Zlín (Cze) vs Atlético Madrid (Spa) FC Nantes (Fra) vs Cork City (Ire) RC Genk (Bel) vs Borussia Dortmund (Ger) FC Thun (Swi) vs Hamburger SV (Ger) Shinnik Yaroslavl (Rus) vs Rio Ave (Por) Schalke 04 (Ger) vs Vardar Skopje (Mac) Slovan Liberec (Cze) vs Roda (Neth) Lille (Fra) vs Dynamo Minsk (Bel) Tampere United (Fin) vs OFK Beograd (S&M) Villarreal CF (Spa) vs Spartak Moscow (Rus) Vetra Vilnius (Lit) vs Esbjerg fB (Den) Some good looking match-ups in the third round.... Liberec vs Roda, Villarreal vs Spartak Moscow, Genk vs Dortmund and Thun vs Hamburger. A few of the 'smaller' clubs have also made it to the third round to make things even more interesting. Can Cork City continue their surprising play against Nantes? Will Skopje be able to shock Schalke?
Results from the 3rd round --- 1st leg.... The rest of the games will be played tomorrow... FC Thun (Switzerland) 2 Hamburg SV (Germany) 2 Shinnik Yaroslavl (Russia) 1 Uniao Leiria (Portugal) 4 Schalke 04 (Germany) 5 Vardar Skopje (Macedonia) 0 Liberec (Czech Republic) 1 Roda JC Kerkrade (Netherlands) 0 Slaven Belupo (Croatia) 0 Spartak Trnava (Slovakia) 0 Lille (France) 2 Dinamo Minsk (Belarus) 1 Zlin (Czech Republic) 2 Atletico Madrid (Spain) 4 Racing Genk (Belgium) 0 Borussia Dortmund (Germany) 1 Villareal (Spain) 1 Spartak Moscow (Russia) 0 Games to be played tomorrow... Vetra (Lithuania) v Esbjerg (Denmark) Nantes (France) v Cork City (Ireland) Tampere (Finland) v OFK Belgrade (S&M)
¿How could Atletico lose with their superhero outfit on? The superheroes always win. Villareal could have a tough time in Russia though, but the draw only makes it possible for one Spanish team to qualify (again) so one of those two has to be eliminated at one point anyway.
Results from Sunday Vetra (Lithuania) 1 Esbjerg (Denmark) 1 Nantes (France) 3 Cork City (Ireland) 1 Tampere (Finland) 0 OFK Belgrade (Serbia & Montenegro) 0 The 3rd round - 2nd leg will be played next weekend. Cork City did get one away goal, but will it be enough? Both of the 'weaker' home teams came away with ties today.... unfortunately it probably won't be enough for either club (Vetra or Tampere).
Very Interesting, some great clubs inside. Schalke 04, Dortmund, Hamburg, Nantes, Belgrade, Atletico Madrid, Spartak Moscow and Villareal.
I think over the past few years the Inter-Toto Cup has been looking better and better.... in terms of the clubs competiting. Should make for an interesting fourth round...
